restore SL 433 hyd. drive sled or not????

Hi Mills and Monty...
Been afraid to turn on cmptr ...the thunder storms you sent east have
been playing with the hydro ...might be over now ...
Mills....sent you a PM also ...
Monty ...I am aiming at weekend of 15 ,16 july ...that will give us 5 days
to make our way to Manitoba and back down ...Hoping to see Eagle River ,
racing sled museum and snowmobiler museum in Grand Rapids MI on way west.
I haven't heard from EJcamaro for a while ...but I still intend to get his PR .
after getting yours ..
I have "invited" Mills to buy/get the shifter off one of the sleds at your house
if he wishes ..sounds like he passing Alex. in June ...He is very excited about
his sled and I expect I have a shifter here somewhere for the TL433F .
Yes ...these two brothers have a great collection of sleds ..Their wives seem
to think the hobby is great ...They know exactly where their husbands are ...
fixing sleds in the garage !!!..
...I hope that weekend works ...I,m hosting family picnic the Sat before ,and
trying for a sled show the 9th on the way to border (with a 67? SnowHawk
on board )

Ron,
I found a small tear/hole in a rubber diaphram in the carb, and I'm going to try to find a new one. Anyone know this rubber piece I'm talking about or where I can find one? This carb is a little different than the ones I'm used to working on.

Eric
off the top of my head, this should be a kehin butterfly carb - correct? kits are readily available and I have several kits sitting on my shelf.
Ron
I was thinking of taking my step son to Grantsburg WI that weekend for the world championships of watercross. - Keep in touch, maybe I could borrow a trailer and bring your stuff that way and meet you there. that would save you some travel also!

Ron and Monty

Guys,

You have PM's with my home e-mail address.
I am looking for the shift linkage at the pump so if either of you has what I am looking for what's the $$$. I am now pretty sure the sled is TL433F.

Mills

Hi Mills ....I had a look at an email pic from Monty and the 74 TL has the
fulcrum / pivot at pump , but a spring holding it into drive hooked to frame .
The 76 PR pic is missing completely ,but I don't have underhood pic for the
other PR ...I will have a look around and see if my 77 PR look like my 74 TL .
.
Monty...I could also come to your work on monday or try to catch you
at watercross event ...I could also push along and try for Fri night. I don't
know how long it will take to see sites and come from MB ...If your stepson
is from Alex. then you will be taking him home Sun ??Maybe Mon at work
might work best then ...you could take GP433 to watercross and sell it ?
( or sink it ). I will have a look at drive handles here at home and let both
of you know what I find out.
.
Had a MRI on my back today . Techs don't say much, but said it took
longer than expected (looking around) .Maybe they will find a cure ??
or tell me as before ..."Don't do that anymore" . It's been suggested
that I collect butterflies instead of sleds .
RON

Ron, we got plenty of time to work details for pickup. Just wanted to think ahead - there is a chance we will not take in the event - will finilize that this weekend! If you have time: Dont forget to vist the Polaris Factory in Roseau - they have a nice "museum" there. you are planning on the St. Germain snowmobile hall of fame - correct

Monty

Hi Monty
Yes Eagle River and StGermain are in my plans and ISHOF in Grand Rapids .
If I had to choose between Thief River , CAT , and Roseau , Polaris ,,,,
which should I see ??? Or both ?? Either have tours in summer ??
On a diff topic ...any of those scorpion quad track groomers around you ??
Since my sleds don't go real fast and the old ones are far from smooth,
I have always enjoyed pulling a small groomer and ski track setter .May
also visit a small groomer mfg spot near Duluth ...anyway , the quad track
has always caught my eye ....Thought of taking a few parts units and
building a twin track , twin engine groomer , but with no reverse , it could
be a problem eventually ,,,,Just weld two tunnel side by side and steer
with a combination of brake and throttle ..Maybe when I "retire" ., if there
is still any gasoline around then ..
Raining here ...going out to work on raised floor in truck bed , to get sleds
side by side above wheel wells .Basic's done but a few finishing details
to deal with ..

Monty , Mills , Ej , RyanB

I will email everybody sometime soon ..I've had a suggestion about
dropping 2 sleds in ThunderBay to be retreived by my brother in hunting
season ,,,means I won't need to drag my trailer everywhere .....would
like to pu during the week , maybe Mills could "forward" Montys to Becker
or Elkmound , I really want Monty's TL433 and I'm interested in RyanB 's
machine also ...maybe Mills could bring one in fall to Toronto ??
Monty .I want to meet you and Mills if possible and I would have trouble
getting back to Alex, for wkd pu and then Monty can go to watercross ...
Probably be in St Cloud area for Wed or Thurs .12-13 ...
Would be coming down from MB on wkd and I hope I can pu Eric's on maybe
Mon / Tues ...
I will send everbody a email as well ,but thought seeing my plan as a group
would help everyone undersatnd my "plan".
RON

Hey guys, I got the sled last weekend (what a haul 15 hrs to get back home) and it is definitely a TL433F. It runs but the drive belt is broken so I wasn't able to drive it onto the trailer. It has 1,903 original miles on it and was last registered in 1983 but it has been run several times over the years since then.

I am going to take pic's of the sled and post them here. I would like you guys to take a look at them and tell me what you think is either missing or may not be the correct part(s). It should all be original except for the shift linkage that my uncle cobbled together when he was using it. ANy suggestions you can give on people that can rebuild items or may have new/good condition items would be much appreciated. Things like new a windsheild, new track, the side molding, hood scoop, etc.

Thats Great

Hi Mills .. I'm waiting for your pics ....and will try to have another
look on Yamaha web site at possible bogie sled version .Did you ever
find my 74 pics on acscc.com .?? You may want 1 of monty's 76 "s for
drive belt and maybe conversion to double sliders , not 74 but 75 and 76.
I have new windshields and belts here as well as shifter linkages from 77"s
which seem to be the same ...Get the pics up of email me from this site
so I get at work (hi speed)...I don't think i'll let you talk me out of Monty's
74 though .....I'm still planning and waiting for a reply from RyanB , maybe
he's on holidays ??

parts needed

Ron,

I found a website that has brand new belts avaialbe for this sled so one is on the way to me now. This sled actually has the dual slide rail rear suspension which was factory applied. At this point I do know that it is a TL433F but I don't know exactly what year it is because my dad can't remeber for sure what year he bought it. Would you know now knowing that the sled came with factory slide rails?
The main parts that I am looking for would be a new windsheild, shift linkage plate, hood scoop, track, some idler wheels and seat. The rest of the sled and components are in pretty good, but grimmy, shape. My dad did put the ski spreader kit on it not to long after he bought it to help stablize it a little.
Chad

Hi Chad ....My 74 came with dual sliders and single sprocket, centre
drive , with no windows cut in for the snow to enter ,,,steel
clips were imbedded into the track and nubs to keep from sliding
sideways in the rails ....I cut windows into my track but the
cross bars eventually broke in drive windows and I stuffed in a
suspension from a 75 GPX (same as 75 TL and 76 PR) with
double drive and windows ....
Red / black stripe on hood in 74 model
Gold stripe on 75 model TL
I'm off until Tues , you can email me at home if needed.
I'll get some stuff ready and see if we can meet July 11 evening
maybe or drop stuff with Monty for a later p/u .
RON

RON

Had a GREAT time in MI .WI . MN and MB
with great snowmobile people.Yamaha people !!!!
Will post some pics when they get developed ..

Glad to hear your trip went well Ron. Again I must appoligize for causing your added miles. Did you get my email regarding the NOS drive unit for sale?
Monty

Please send pics with all of them!! Sorry I had to work I was looking forward to meeting you, maybe on a TY ride someday. I hope you had an easy time finding my place and the sled was to your liking. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't hear anything when I called your onstar phone either, but I did get the message you left with my fiancee's father. Glad you had fun, get some rest!!!!

Wicked Products Metal Polish

The stuff I use on my semi and sleds is made by "Wicked Products" and is called Lightning Shine, and comes in a yellow bottle. If you get the large bottle it will just be called "metal polish", but its the same stuff. I fought those large aluminum 150 gallon fuel tanks for years untill I found this stuff, you'll like it alot better than mothers and blue magic. Any Flying J truck stop will have it, they just started carrying Wicked Products, or else you can find it on ebay too.

Thanks. My step son has put TONS of hours into polishing his ET300 racer. now he wants to start my SR292!!!!! when he gets done, I'm gonna spray a clear coat over everything. Maybe I'll give the wicked stuff a try on the SR292
thanks
