how much more power can i get from this? just by removing 1 layer. i know they had low compression compaired to the 500s and is there anything else i will need to do?

i had a 94 vmax 600 and did this same mod. just take the stock head gasket drill out the little rivets that hold all 3 layers together and take out the middle one. i used some spray on gasket maker called "high tack" on both sides of both gaskets left before i stuck it all together and have had no problems since found it helped the throttle response and low end pickup a bit i was pulling 162 kmh top end so 100 mph. you'll have to check your plugs and see if you're running rich or lean but i found those motors run pretty rich so i jetted down the main jets one size, the pilot jets one size and dropped the clip one notch leaner on the jet needles. but like i said before changing jetting make sure you check your plugs first. you should have no issues doing the head mod though sled is still nice and reliable.

I would check the gasket before you do this, if the sled has ever been repaired it may not have the original style gasket in it. There are 3 different gaskets for that engine. 3,4, and 5 layer. You may take out more than 1 piece. If you do have the 3 piece and you take one out, MAKE SURE you get good fuel.
