Been searching and found Polaris idler wheels..(5.35") to replace my stock (5.125") idler wheels,all 6 of them. Also found 7.5" rear wheels that come from the 1979 SRX 440 sleds.Bearing sizes on the idlers same as the Yamaha's
6205 bearings.Also looking into a universal wheel kit for up front. Will put on graghite slides also.This should help my slides from wearing to fast.
Ski's are still an issue with me. Don't want to spend a bundle on them.Looking for 6 ' wide ski's for flotation.Not sure if dually's or single bar type.What do you guys suggest?
Little things also like hand guards in blue,running board trim in blue, slips in blue, blue rear flap.
Getting a complete front end bushing kit and bushings for suspension end of it.
Also waiting for a guy whose friend is selling a 1998 SRX in mint shape,3400 km's on it.I would be willing to take it off his hands for a good price,but not to much.My wife's nephew bought one this past winter with only 1400 miles on it for $3000.00. This sled was clean and fast for stock.He beat his old man's RX-1 with it. Said he burried the needle on the sled,past the 220 km/h 0n it.His old man's sled would top out at 230 he said,so go figure.He couldn't believe how that SRX pulled,expecially after 100mph it just rocked. ;)!
 
Yamaha sells these little wheels to reduce wear on sliders. They mount directly to the aluminum rails and utilize the redge running the legth of them as a guide. My old man uses two sets of them and they actually do work!

Get a set of USI's, Royal Distributing sells them for half price now. I use the VX-301's

For handguards, go with the sportech ones, they work better in winter becuase they are very large, and you dont normally pressure washa sled, so the stickers wont come off, unlike the ones on my friends Kodiak, where the stickers ripped off. For the trim, get these things called "sno slips" and "Sno-grips", which are plastic, and actually work, we had them on our VK540 III, and do the same thing as the running board trim. The grips are up to you, never tried them.

The front end bushing kit that Royal sells SUCKS. I totally do not reccomend them. In fact, the ones in the kit brand new were worse than the stock ones at 15000kms. putting new OEM's back in this year.

SRX rocks, nuff said, lol Take that thing on hardpack and it makes you instantly a G-Force Junky

Yes Norwegian that is 136 mph, he said it hauled a$$,that he couldn't believe it himself.He has an Artic Cat F-7 I think,put a lot of money into it as a racer.No one has beat him yet he says.The fuel he uses is 110 Octane, at $12.oo a gallon.Says at 100 mph he punches it and the front end lifts right of the ground.He is selling it now cause he got married and is building a house. He also sold the SRX.
 
Yamahammer, if I purchase them ski's, theVX 301's, can I use my existing mounting plates off my old stock ski's? I would probably go with the 9" carbides also.

Sorry, I forgot to put up a link about the skis.

When I said half price, all I did was look at the price for the skis, and not why. Turns out, they used to sell the skis and mounts as a package, thus being more then it is listed now, but now, you have to purchase the skis and mounts seprerate.

BTW, these skis totally rock, and after all the kms Iv put on mine, there is no real wear, but that also be because of the conditions I ride in. I have the 9" Shaper bars and they are wicked, they are so good, that all my friends and dad is converting to them. 9" is as big as you can go, and if you ride aggressively, you need them. Even if you dont go with the shaper bars, 9" of carbide on anything is going to bite hard.

136 mph, is possiblke on an SRX if its modded. Clearly, if he is using 110 octane race fuel, he has higher compression along with other modifications which would make the engine predetonate, so in order to counter-act that, retard the timing by running high octane fuel. Is that 136mph on the speedo?

Sorry but the 110 octane was being used on his Artic Cat,not the Srx. Yes he has modded the Cat. He spent over 6000 dollars engine mods he told me.It is a serious racing sled.And no fooling,he told me that that stock Srx ran like a bullet and that he buried the needle on the speedo.
 
Not sure of the shaper bar material. This my 2nd pair, first pair had over 2k on them and they wore pretty good. I have all the others and the shaper bars on C&A adv skis work real well. Check Richs motorsports he always has good deals.
 
Shaper bar isnt made of that much more different material, but what is important is the shape of it. Take a close look at it, this is why it is such a good carbide. It is wide at the top, then narrow in the center, then back to wide, all to hold in snow and get a better bit, and after running lots of different carbides, ACS, Yamaha, I find these the best.

Ok for now I have installed 7.5 " rear wheels with good bearings in the rear. Also installed 6 Polaris 5.375" idler wheels all with new bearings. Put on a marginal wheel kit at the front rails and installed graphite hyfax to boot.Changed upper idler bearings also. Installed adjustable transfer rods at the same time.
Put new jets in the carbs,set up for -20 F so that the Temp-A Flow I installed will work properly. Cleaned out the carbs and installed everything this afternoon.
Installed the 51/43 Helix I purchased earlier in the year.
Next is to work on the front end..ski's..shaper bars..bushings..etc. I am tired and working in this heat is killing me. Gone for a nap,see you later.
 
Fired up

Well got the sled fired up today. Had a small problem with the wiring.Plugged 2 wires in the wrong spot and was not getting a spark. Yesterday was pulling and pulling and not one puff.Was getting ticked off a bit. Gas was getting to the carbs,plugs were wet.Pulled and pulled and then broke the starter rope. That was it for that day. Went to my dealer today and picked up new rope and ordered extra things. Stock primary and green secondary springs.Got some extra rivets for the clutch on order to keep experimenting with my clutch setup.Ordered fuel filter,muffler gaskets (boy are they expensive$38.29 ea.),bushings for the front spindle bolts on the mounting brackets. Anyways couldn't figure out why I could get no spark. Looked things over and over for a while. Finally discovered that the orange wire goes to the coil,anyways one pulled and she fired up.Checked my new wheels and idlers as the track was turning,looks good.Ah if only there was snow.Still looking for new ski's,will decide later.I am still looking for 8dn-10 weights if any one has some they don,t need.Will try the stock weights with the 51/43 helix,then will try 8dn-10's and then will try 8dn-20's to see what I end up withfor rpm's and top end, only when there is snow out. Will not attempt to drag on my lawn.

Got the ski's off today and checked the front end for wear. There certainly is some,even though I put new bushings in last year. Put 4 new bimetal bushings in the spindle bottoms where the bolt and collar go through to attach the ski's to mounting plate. The plastic bushings were a little sloppy on each spindle. So I took the bushings off,made a cut sideways thru them on my bandsaw,created a gap now. Cut some alum. strips and wrapped around the bushings as I pushed them back in the front arms top and bottom.Now slide the spindle up into the arms,now there is no more play whatsoever. It is nice and snug. I grabbed the whole front of the arms and lifted upwards. Now I find the bushings in the control arms also have play. I guess I will be removing them to do the same trick.Well at least I will have no play in these areas.I will be ordering new ski's very soon to complete everything in the front end. :brr can you feel it...can y o u f e e l i t. It's coming soon to a place near you. :WayCool: :shock:
 
Got somemore goodies from Royal Distributing today. Lets open the box and see what I got this time,hummmm.Ah a Ultimax 3 belt by Carlisle...good choice. Next a set of ice scratchers for the sled for them days on hard pac snow and or ice riding. Also got a pair of Blue Sportech hand gaurds,they'll look great on the sled to.Ok now I see 3 NGK IRIDIUM Spark plugs in there also,another good choice.And some smaller items to boot....A Blue Pull Start handle and to top it off ...finally ...a fuel shut off valve,which should really come with all sleds.Well that's it for todays delivery.Xmas has come early again.
Still trying to make my mind up on 2 new ski's for the sled.Also looking into shaper bars to go with them. Will make my mind up soon and order them in.Now If I could start putting some coin away to save up for oil and gas,all will be fine. Can't wait for the snow. It is supposed to be an early winter according to some. I hope it is true.
May still get my hands on an SRX if I am lucky.Then I can start work on that sled.Still thinking about the Manitoba TY Ride next year,could be fun,if my sled makes it till then....haha.

Well I went and done it. Spent money I don't have.I ordered from Royal the
USI VX301 ski's.They will be here next week. Snow is also close in coming. Must get ready for the first ride. ;)! :brr :brr can yoy FEEEEEEEEEL IT>
 
Got my new VX 301 ski's today from Roayal.Mounting plate looks awesome.Will put them on this weekend and align the front end and basically am ready for the snow,

as for front end bushings, I LOVE the sno tek ones I put on my viper and the wifes sxr 600. nice and hard plastic like material, super tight fit, and slippery as hell :) made the front end REAL tight, and can feel it in the steering being nicer. and it slides through the travel pretty nicely too :)
 
Way to go Bluemonster, all those things look awsome!

My mouning plates that came with my skis were black, but i guess in recent years, they changed the color to standard aluminum finish. You are going to love the skis, they are very high quality and work perfectly. Only thing about them, and this is if I had to nit pick about them, would be that the ski tips arent high enough somethimes, like they wont poke out through the deepest snow, or if there is a really steep snowbank, im afraid they might spear into it, lol
