Blue you should maybe put some hi-temp silicone on those exhaust springs. Helps prevent breakage by holding the vibrations a little better. I'm glad i'm not in Manitoba with that weather... I'm just fine with the comfortable -8 we're at right now lol. My speedo and tach are fogging up a bit aswell... didn't do that two seasons ago but started last season, bugs me a little but not enough to worry about it yet.
Good to hear you got 'er running strong. Mines getting close with the 14.5mm rollers, 8DN-20 weights with 3.1g inner and 2.44g outer with PI End Dumps. Right from 8100 on a short run... haven't been able to try top end for the target 8500 but will soon... hope it's close.
Good luck this season and give me some of that cold weather!

Here is today's story 03Viper Guy.Changed back to 4.5mm rollers from the 15.6mm rollers.Still the 8DN-20 weights empty inner hole and 2.7 outer hole.Wrapped at 70 secondary with green spring.Used the Ultimax3 belt.I got 8100 at launch and 8500 at WOT.Really felt great.Super pull out of the hole ,actually lift the ski's a bit to.Steady climb to 8500 was strong.BUT.....suddenly from out of nowhere,on hard packed trail at throttle pinned, there was this shredding sound and I lost speed and came to a stop. Opened hood and the belt was totally gone...exploded,bingo,up $hit's creek so to speak. And it took out my speed-0 line with it,wrapped around it pretty good.Belt cover was slightly bent where the long pin holds it,and the area behind the footwell dented in concave manner.Lucky that's all the damage there was.
Anyways was about 1000 feet from my driveway,so put on the Spare OEM belt I had and drove home.Untangled the mess and went out for another 15 minute run to see how things were working.Seemed fine, clutches never got damaged,a little scuff marks ..that is it.But once I installed the OEM belt,my rpm's changed...because of the harder belt I guess. Now I launched at 8600 and WOT at 9000.Going to have to re-tune clutch once again for that belt. Will never buy an aftermarket belt again. It was suggested to me to start with 3.6g in both holes and go from there. What do you have for a suggestion on the rivets?
Here are some pics of what's left of belt and belt tangled around speed-0 cable.LOL

That belt looks sweet next to the curtains!!! :>) What an understanding wife!!!
By the way, when you heard some noises that sounded like slipping, you need to stop and check them out. You might have avoided the big failure. (I've said these exact words to myself!!!)
You'r actually lucky that it grenaded kind of slowly. Mine failed abruptly last year and it bent my foot well pretty good. Hope your speedo isn't a big deal.
Cheers buddy.

I havent heard of anyone other than my dads 76 srx 340 race sled or his 72 sno jet thunderjet 650 race sled launching that high. seems like you will run into some problems. get it to engage a LOT lower and you may find fewer belts grenading

done deal I think
Well here is the set-up I started with today.Put 3.6g rivets in both holes of the 8DN-20 weights.Installed clutch and put on 8DN belt.Warmed sled up for 15 minutes,it was cold out today.Drove it slowly up and down to warm up chaincase oil and track.I launched at 8200 rpm and climbed to 8400.I am just a tad off,but am happy. If I put 3.1g in outer..that may jump rpm to high..like 8600 to 8700.May drill hole in middle of the upper rivets to lighten them slighty and see what will happen.May try 80 wrap first to see how it might change then go from there.

Well did a lot of work to sled in the past day or so.First I picked up my speed-0 cable and installed it.Got my track tension re-adjusted.Now sag is 1/2" with no pull. That is basically the same as 22lbs pull and 1 " sag.Adjusted my limiters to 10mm minimum.Opened transfer rod gap up an 1/8" also.Tightened my center shock ,it was at bare minimum before. Also my ski shocks where at bare minimum before, got they ajusted to harder position. With all these adjustments I actually gained height on my front end.Floor to under bumper height before was 14.25 inches, now the height is approx. 15.5 inches.I needed this lift since I installed the new USI ski's and mounting bracket,my sled dropped at least an inch in height. I was getting more snow flying over my hood and into my visor, and more snow was entering engine compartment to.Wrapped secondary to 80 instead of 70. Clutches are a little hotter, but not enough to burn my fingers while touching for at least 4 seconds. And finally took the primary clutch off again.Weight had 3.6g in both holes.Replaced outer with 3.1g.Now she launches at 8200 and climbs to 8500 nicely.Still useing last years 8DN belt with well over 4000 km's on it,and it is holding up.Nothing is tearing or fraying on the belt. This ditchbanger is ready for some serious action now.
