Hey guys (& gals),

I'm going to be in the market within the next few weeks to finally pick up a nice enclosed trailer I've been dreaming about for some time. My problem is finding someone local or fairly local to help me out. Some of the places I've called seem ok and some others just seem like flat out crooks! Just hoping someone on here knows a place that will treat me right.

I'm looking for an inline enclosed all aluminum, between 16 and 20 feet in length. Obviously a front ramp/v-nose, dual axle and electric brakes etc. etc. etc.

If you guys know of anywhere that carries a large stock of used trailers that would be great, hopefully save me a few bucks but from what I've seen the used ones aren't that much less than new, so new it might have to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

My brand preferences are:

Featherlite-- Awesome trailers but might be out of my price range

Triton-- Again, very nice trailers but might be out of my league

Rance Renegade-- These seem like a good value, would be great to find one used.

And if I must, to save a few bucks I wouldn't mind going with:

Pace American-- These I'm not sure about, anyone know how well they hold up compared to the other brands listed?

Again thanks for the help, some of the price quotes I've gotten were just down right scary. Maybe someone in Wisconsin or Indiana would be a little more willing to deal. I figured now's the time to buy before the season hits.

I havent seen many inlines around. I to would like to upgrade to a 2 or 3 place inline aluminum. I have a buddy that works at Triton in Wisconsin, and he cant even get me one from the manufacture to save some money.

Let us know guys! Thanks.

Have you looked at the "Aluma"? I have one and have been happy with it. http://www.alumaklm.com/sections/products/template_new.php?product_id=23&product_category=6 Meyer Yamaha in Ishpeming is the dealer I use and he typically has a few around. I think he is the distributor for golf carts for wisconsin so he would probably deliver down that way somewhere... mine was around 5k for options I don't really recall them all. Not many... but it had a side door, relief springs on the doors so I can lift them, lights, 4 wheel brakes and an emergancy break away battery for the brakes. So far the only thing I would grumble about on it is the hammer blow coupler. http://www.tjtrailers.com/store/straight-tongue-couplers-hammerblow.html

We bought our trailer from http://www.raadams.com/ , We delt with lary they took good care of us and if they dont have it in stock they will order it. We bought a wells cargo 4 place side by side, w/ extended height (6' to 6.5) and the price was the same and by ordering it we got to pick the color we wanted. these things are not cheep and our experience with cheep trailers is they don't tow verry well.

I spoke with RA Adams and their prices were alot more for the SAME trailer brands as I've found at other dealers for less. Glad they took care of you, but the prices they quoted me were ridiculous.

Called and their prices are not so good. They wanted $9k for a trailer which I found a similar one available for $6k. Crossing them off the list.

Calling you now...

Well, the search continues. Heard of a few places a little further away (east coast) and going to make some calls and give them a shot. Of course we all have to weigh fuel/time costs vs. actual savings on the trailer so all of that will be taken into consideration.

When it's all said and done I will write a lengthy report on everyone that I've dealt with, how they've treated me, what their prices were on specific models etc. I think (I hope) that this info might be helpful to someone shopping for a trailer in the future, someone like me who's just trying to get a fair deal on a decent trailer (nothing top of the line or too fancy, just something that gets the job done and hold up well over time).

If I can save someone some time and make a list of who to call, and who to definately NOT call they might appreciate it, as I would now. But I'll do the legwork to save someone some time & $$$ in the future.

So far out of the 10+ trailer places that I've talked to, there was only one realistic person looking to deal on a decent quality trailer (renegade). If I hear one more time how the price of aluminum, steel and even wood is going up I'm going to throw up.

Alot of these places will have you believe that you NEED to spend a MINIMUM of $7000 + tax + title + doc fees to get any kind of a decent trailer. I've already proved that one wrong (to myself) by finding a quality built trailer with a solid brand name for $6000 (3 place, all aluminum, inline). But I'm hoping to do better and in the process disspell some of the myths that retail trailer sales establishments would have us believe.

Information is power and there's also power in numbers. I believe that if most of the snowmobile, motorcycle and utility trailer buying public can pool together and share info there would be no reason for anyone not to find a great deal on the trailer that they're looking for, no matter where they live in the U.S.

Until then remember that "The price of aluminum is going up and will continue rise so buy your trailer immediately if you want to save any money!"<--lol, I love stealers (dealers). There might be some truth to this, in fact I wouldn't doubt if there was, just a little. I just have a feeling it's being blown out of proportion just a teeny bit. Regardless I'm going to look into this whole aluminum price thing to see just how much it affects, or should affect trailer production costs. I'll call some friends in the business who buy direct from Japan (they make other aluminum products but on a large scale, equivalent to what a trailer company would need/use I would think) and get the skinny.

This is going to take some time and require alot of research but I just have to know, for myself, why a trailer costs nearly as much as a car or almost as much as a motorcycle. It's a box on wheels and most of the samples I've seen were not the best examples of quality workmanship. In most cases they look like they've been "slapped" together.

I'm probably missing something, but I just don't get it.

Sorry for the long post, and reading my rant (if you've come this far).

Here's an idea. Are you crafty? If so why not just build it your self. Most of the parts are available from various retailers. Just make some plans, find a place that can bend up the panels and weld it together. Even if you pay a good aluminum fab guy to do it it will be cheaper. Getting the measurements correct and keeping it square are things to keep an eye on.

Also if you have a trailer now consider selling it for scrap to off set the material cost.

Not a bad idea and has crossed my mind before. Actually know a great aluminum fab guy who can and will make just about anything. He's fixed more trackbikes for friends than I can count. Might be interesting and dare I say fun to give it a go and see how it turns out. Of course I won't get the axles and a few other misc parts as cheap as the big outfits that buy bulk but might just work out. Basically depends on how much time I'll have to devote to the project.

If you know which Triton you would want, give Mike at Ace power sports, in Kenosha Wi. a call. 1-262-654-3090. He took very good care of me a few weeks ago on a two place V, that I will be putiing a cap on this fall.
RA Adams had a nice selection, but would not budge on the price of what I was looking at (Rance).
Good luck.
