Chaincase oil.

I've put on over 2000 kms on my sled in last year and a bit and have yet to change the chaincase oil.

Should I do this?
I don't see a drain plug, and only a small valve near the top of the case.
How do I go about draining and filling this chaincase on my 91' PZ II.

Not sure on a Phazer, but a lot of older Yamaha sleds required to just pull the face plate off of the chaincase. That will obviously drain the oil, but it makes a mess so have lots of rags ready. What ever it takes to get it out, you definitely want to change if at least once a year. 80/90 weight should suffice.

Their might be a drain plug on the backside of the chaincase located inside the tunnel.I change mine every year.I run amsoil synthetic or klotz synthetic chain case lube.If your sled has a lot of miles on it i would pull the chaincase cover and inspect the sprockets and chain,adjust the chain.
 
I like Klotz too. It has graphite in it. Now I don't know if the graphite makes it any better but it makes me feel like I'm "high tech", but not as much as the beeper on my belt.

X2, I think you'll have to get a new gasket because it's not the o-ring material and make sure it's spotless before installing the new one. The part# for the gasket on a 91 Phazer is 86F-47592-00-00 and is about 10.00 ;)!

To drain the oil on that sled you need to remove the cover,
there is no drain plug,,

yes synthetic is good i use Amsoil G/L
 
Removed fan shroud (allen bolts are a pain) remove exhaust pipe, drill a couple of drain holes in belly pan below C.C. cover where there is actually a recess/dip in B-pan and this will allow you to place a drain pan underneath. I also, find it helps draining to place a 2x4 under the left ski.
 
Silicone gasket maker works. Just be sure to not go to heavy with it, especially around the breather vent as it will plug the vent. Then the fluid heats, builds pressure, pushes the snap in fill plug out, and slings gear lube all over the hot exhaust. A fire will start soon after if you don't stop for the smoke rolling out of the hood.

Yes I have experienced this firsthand. I'm much more careful with my form a gasket now.

I actually have some of that black gasket maker that I used on my car to fix a leaking joint on the cooling system right where the line comes off the water pump. On the sled however, it would be a larger area... It just doesn't seem like a paper gasket would work that well. Never done it before though.
This I will have to tackle in the fall I'd say.

really it's more like a cardboard than paper

thats how your sled came from the factory(they used a paper,cardboard
gasket) in there....

never had a problem with mine,thats all i use is the OEM gasket.
