Ok guys, I have a 82 Bravo that the kids pound on around the house, everything is still stock, but is in great condition, and I clean the carb and all that good stuff, but the only problem is in any temp outside it goes for about a half hour then kills, you then have to wait about 10 mins and it fires back up again, i'm thinking a over heating problem is happening, so do you think i should put in some of those hood vents to try to solve this problem???, There are no vents on the whole hood.. i know it's aways before the snow flies, but just wanted to hear some thoughts on it.
 
Ive never owend one, but if I rememeber correctly, they had a 250cc single cylinder fan-cooled motor. Maybe check the fan belt if you think its overheating. Putting hood vents in may be just a band-aid fix to a bigger problem that could lead to a more catastrophic ending! #$%&*
IMO, If its doing it after a half hour in any temp., I wouldn't think it was a temp. problem.Maybe a fuel supply problem? A restriction in the tank pick-up? :dunno:

Fan on the bravo is crank driven, no fan belt.

There is one large vent in the front of the bravo just below the front of the hood which can slide up or down, opening or closing the vent. You go about this by loosening two bolts and letting the slide cover or open the vent.

My 77' Elan twin used to do that, even with no hood, no carb cover thing and stright pipe. Turns out it was a vent line from the crank case that was causing it to take a crap every time, so just used a few clamps to secure it. So you might just want to go over your lines, because the Bravo we have has never over heated, even when working it hard in warm conditions.
 
Yep, I know the fan is crank driven, and my vent is clear and wide open, I think i may just rip everything apart and just go through and clean & inspect everything again, Thanks for the info
 
internal coil gets my vote. dads 1979 et 250 is bad for that. if you are traveling at high speed with it its fine. if yer going slow like trail runnin is does exactly what you describe. we used to carry 5 plugs with us as kids. when it quit change the plug and itd fire back up. by the time you got to the 5th oone the 1st one was cold again and ready to get put back in.
