You should be able to beat him all the way.EricMichael said:Just wondering if an 02 viper with slp pipes/v-force cages set up for 500ft correctly will beat the last edition xcr 800 with slp pipes?i weigh 143 also and he ways 160.thanks

ya, should be no contest, those xcr800 were not what you call big hp impressive sleds. The piped viper set up properly is a force to be reckoned with on the trails and friends racin friends on a lake.

i have seen a piped viper against a clutched xcr 800 on the lake a couple years ago. the viper pulled him bottom to top, i thought it would be closer!

Remember the key words are "set up correctly", that means clutching, suspension and jetting are all perfect, just because you throw pipes on one doesnt mean you can take on the world.

Those sleds are fast, it might not be the cake walk your thinking about!

i noticed some were fast others werent. they werent like the mach tripples. damn near everyone i saw was a force to be reconed with! zrt 800's ran good too!vipertripplexxx said:Those sleds are fast, it might not be the cake walk your thinking about!
Mr. Viper Is Right!! A Well Setup One Will Run With About Anything Out There. Intill You Run Into An Bigbore. A Hot To Go 1100 Xcr Is One Running Sled......220hp. The Only Sled That Beat Me Last Year.

Yea, yer right!
But all those sleds need is the correct jetting & clutching.
The motors make a ton of power, but the jetting is pig rich from the factory.
Tripple with tripple pipes, premium fuel switch, and power valves, don't think it's gonna be a walk in the park!
Chris my friend has a 99 XCR 700 clutched and re-jetted down 3 sizes from stock jetting, and he is still good to below zero weather. Let me tell you how mad all of the guys on lake gogebic get when he passes all of the new 800's!!!!!!! Not one stock machine has beat him yet, countless rev and xc 800's, f-8's give him a run, but he ends up pulling them in up top. I won't even race him on my trail sled cause my track lug is 1.5" and I don't want to hear it.
TRUTH BE TOLD.

Besides a well setup mach z last year, this was one of the closest races I experienced. These XCR 800 are very fast and I had barely won on my well set up SRX. I had him from start to finish but by the end of the race he was only 4-5 sleds behind. These sleds can run! Don't count them out. 159 HP out of the box.

If the guy with the XCR knows a Flannery, Schooping, Bakers, Hutchinson, Braga, Hunt.. or someone like them...That XCR 800 will FLY.

While agreed on comments on the set up part of this post, a 800xcr is only around low 150's hp stock hp and a pig..... as they come from factory, now add the slp pipes hes around 168-170hp, and its heavy. A viper is around 153hp with those SLP pipes and fairly light, the biggest thing coming into play is simply SET UP. The viper being a little less hp wont hurt it, its a over acheiver engine. I dont recall seeing anything posted originally about flannery or any other polaris performance shop, nor do I see anything about having a bender or other yamaha performance shop set up viper, sounds like 2 backyard guys going at it in friendly feild/lake racin, and if thats the case the best tuner will win, and if you set up the viper good versus his just bolting on stuff, youll kill em. I have made alot of much larger cc sleds then a xcr800 awfull mad at the end of the day running a little 700 viper with pipes, they run hard and are hard to beat when ya know what to do with em, everything in these motors(yamaha) just works!
I would reccomend you dial in jetting perfectly and clutching to a tee 8800-8900rpm, then make the sled set a little lower and work on the rear suspension, alot can be gained from a yamaha working on the suspension. This is the biggest part that lacks in its drag race capabilites, they dont like to transfer and hook, they are spin city, but it can be overcome and made to work good!

I've raced 2 XCR 800's and both were tricked out with clutch, pipes, head, track with chisels...One beat me by half a sled in 500ft...if we had room I would have eatin him up, I was pulling on hm fast. The other I beat by 1.5 sleds in the same 500ft. These guys were pissed. My sled at the time was far from set up...bogged when I punched it and orginal track (crap hook up). I think you should do just fine.
PS - I have Benders 3 into 3 with thier clutch kit, boyesen Rad valves, (4) TPI valves, 192 studs.

i would get that viper a very good setup.. i have a friend with a 00 xcr 800 and when it was stock with clutching its very fast! olmost never lost to another stocker.. when i got my srx 700 engine in (600) before.. he had the htg pipes and heads + clutching. an it was real close when we raced who got the holeshot would win, but he had major problems getting any tracktion, i have also raced piped vipers with clutch kits and beat them every time..
i love yamahas and sure hope you can beat him but be aware these xcrs.. well set up and getting tracktion they will give you more than a handfull!

The 98' and 99 xcr's were dogs then the later gen11 chassis xcr's were very quick.
I have a buddy that has a 2000 xcr bone stock and that thing rips. It will be fun to line up with him this winter with my viper.
He used to crush me with my 2000 xc 700 with an slp single pipe and can and vforce reeds ect...and that machine was fast !
I have a shoot out version of the 2002 mach z 2002 xcr 800 and srx somewere, if i find it i will post the results.
