If I change from 9 tooth standard to 8 tooth extrovert drivers what other adjustments will I need to make? Track tension? Anything else? I am also going from 121" to 136", would the rail extensions be any different?

Yes rail ext. would be different but you can usually make it up in adjustment you just wont have as much.

you ll have to change the gearing when going from 9 to 8 tooth drivers. you didnt mention why you were swapping? higher lug track ? you can go up to 1 1/4" without putting 8 tooth.

Reason for a swap to 8 tooth would be a deal on a set of 8 tooth extroverts. And since I had it apart figured I would change to a set up that might be better if I decide to stud?
Can you go 1 1/4 and stud with cooler/tunnel protectors without changing drivers? Sure are a lot of opinions out there on that one, couple more are always good for consideration.

no need to change the gears. i went with 8 tooth and stock gears and its great. i didnt lose much top end at all and corner to corner is awesome. leave it!

There are alot of good posts on this issue just do a search.When I put a 1.25 track on, the front protectors had to come out because of track rub then I changed to 8tooth mmax drivers so I could stud my 1.25 track w/1.325 studs. With these drivers I could put the protectors back in and had good clearance w/ the studs.I switched the gears to 35/25 and I've heard that 1.60 is an ideal ratio but when doing the math w/ 8 drivers there's a correction factor of 1.13. Top/bottom x 1.13. Mine is 1.58 which is a little tall and my hole shot is still good w/great top end. Just my 2 cents

I also kept the stock geaqring in when I went to 8t drivers it makes the sled alot more fun plus most yami's are overgeared you won't lose that much mph plus the 136 is slowing your top speed down anyways.

Actually it all depends on the type of 1 1/4 track u use as to weather you can leave protectors in..For Instance .I put a 1 1/4 in track that was a connected cone ..it had 1/4 inch knobs and would not hit protectors . Plus i studded it. But with some tracks that have the full wave rib at 1 1/4 across .. you cant. It will hit and tear it up!

a viper speedo is easy to fix, but you might be able to use a speedo adapter off a mountain max or something to get it back to where it was.aSRX600guy said:your speedo will be off.

when you go to smaller drivers it is like going to a set of smaller tires on your car therefore they are harder to turn which in theory requires more hp.sure do the gearing thing you may not notice a differance on hard pack but you will in deep snow and climbing hills.The key to it is to keep your track speed up and don't run out of legs.Most serious mountain climbers go to 10T drivers which is like going from 15's to 16's on you car,they require less hp to turn.I would never advise golig to smaller drivers.

smaller drivers compared to larger ones with gearing to compensate wont make much of a difference. yeah the bigger ones will roll better, but not enough for most people to notice.

I went from 8t to 9t and now i wish i didn't. Sled is a dog off the line with the 9t and the 136" track. I will be going back to the 8t as soon as i get moved. I don't care about top end. And by going to a smaller driver your speedo will read faster than you are going.
