Phazer II Widening Kit

Well, I knwo I posted this last year and got a response; which my lazy *ss promptly failed to follow-up on-so here I go again-

I am looking for a widening kit for a Phazer II; the kits were made by Bender and a few other shops at one time. the kit widens the ski stance from, I beleive, 36" to 42"-

any information woudl be appreciated! I an getting the fever as we have had a mior cold snap here in the Chicago Burbs the lsat week or so and I am gettin gready to start wrenchin on sleds.

I am rebuildign a '91 Phazer and figured that since I am in there, I would widen the stance.

I also though about tryingto get some '96 or newer spare parts as they came from the factory with a wider stance than previous model year Phazer IIs.

Bigman76, its not that hard to make one yourself, have seen people doing their own wide kits on vmax 540's 6-800's, exciters and srv's, if you have some spare time it will not take that long......just remember to scribe a line before you cut off the tss can so it can be welded back with the same rake!

Well; I am not what you would call mechanically inclined. I am willing to work but I will admit, I don't think I have the knowledge.

Ithink I am going to price the control arms and the TSS suspension cans for a '96/'97 Phazer at the dealer and see what it would run me in parts.

I have added wide kits to Phazers, Exciters, and V-maxs and firmly believe this is the single biggest improvement to stability, ride, handling, reduced ski lift, not to mention they look awesome !
You need to remove the hood and side panels. Then lower the front of the belly pan by drilling out the rivets (to weld underneath of cross member cuts). Next remove the skis. The two most important steps are #1 to scribe horizontal lines around cross member to insure you get the strut holders realigned also, write down some point to point measurements for reference. #2 Cut a straight line as (close) to the inside of C.M. as possible and (away from strut holder) this allows more C.M. left on strut holder for better realignment when inserting extensions. Tack both sides on then use a straight edge on strut tops and bottoms to help alignment. Check all scribe marks, angles, and measurements before completely welding. On the V-max I found it necessary to grind out and extend the hole approximately1/2 to 1” back on the right side of the sled where the tie rod goes thru the bulkhead and out to the strut.
I've found the 4" wide kit, which is a 40" ski stance to be a good all around width for trail riding and trailering. For Phazers Yamaha had rubber fillers on the 40”widened 96-97's Phazer II’s to fill in the gap between the panel and strut holder

For the “Do it yourselfer’s “ the pipe Bender sent me was 6.75" in circumference 2 1/8" in diameter with a 1/8" wall thickness. 2 pieces approximately 12-14 " in length should do the trick. You can either buy longer tie rods or cut and extend your originals by 4 “ .
