Two questions on helmets. 1. has anyone tried to remove light scratches from the shield? if so what did you use? a replacement electric shield for my HJC is $80.00, so if I can restore the one I have, I'll be much happier 
and 2. Any way to freshen up the interior of a helmet with non removalable pads?

As far as the scratches a few people in the past have suggested Flitz metal polish and apparently it works great on shields.I have used Febreeze on the interior of mine for freshness,it would be nice if it would come out so it could be washed but you do what you can.
I use Meguaris platic polish... and Meguaris scratch remover... do a two step. use the scratch remover and then the plastic polish... works awesome.. 
as far as the interior.. you can use a hot soapy towel and wash it out then take a hot wet towel and rub the soap out and then let dry.

I have used novus plastic polish with good results. I works well on windshields also.
I let mine stink, then no one will steal it. Well maybe Bischof. LOL Maxdlx

Try plexus, it gets rid of the really small scratches, and some decnt sized ones. When your done polishing, it looks super clear and you would never guess how you rode with such an opaque sheild before.
