RE: 99 Venture 700 Triple Primary Clutch Spring Question
My buddy has a 99 venture 700 and he has a black spring with a pink dot on it. He wants to find a yamaha spring that will engage at a lower RPM to keep it from spinning so much, but stay the same for top rpm's can anyone recomend a part number or a chart to see what spring he should get? is this info here somewhere on this awesome site??

the original spring is a pink-pink-pink, its 30/128. the only other spring even close to that same 128 finish is a yamaha 25/122 a pink-yellow-pink, part number 90501-604g0-00, it(sled) will most likely under rev some on topend with this spring, you may have to barely lighten the tips of the weights with it to run at 8300rpm, this spring will lower your engagement speed some.

Thanks for that info, i guess my buddy never seen the other pink marks, I Just noticed though this spring is a short spring and he has stock a long spring, won't he have to change his clutch cover to allow the shorter spring?

according to the 1999 snowmobile tech book, a venture 700 came with a short spring in it stock. The book shows the cover(long) was only updated in 99 on the vx600er,vx600sxb,vt600,srx 600-700.
I looked again, there was a pink-pink-pink long spring too, but there isnt anything that can replace that for lower engagemnt speed, the long spring is 30/129. If its a long cover, hes out of luck, nothing lower then a 30kg start.
the long cover will say 8df on it, the short cover will say 8bv

there must be weights with a different profile that could be tuned to work.

but the p-p-p spring is a long one, and the one you gave me the number for is a short one... I know clutching can be done, but he wants a quick spring fix, im just trying to help him out.
there is a pink-pink-pink in both a long spring and a short spring. I gave you the number for the short spring replacement spring that would lower the engagement speed, I did this because thats what it came with (short cover)unless its been changed to the long cover, I also gave you the letters to look at on the cover so you will know in 2 seconds looking at it.
