viper to viper s

Besides, everyone knows the Viper isn't the fastest 700 out there, my XTC with head gasket peeled and clutched /jetted/geared will run darn close to my Viper all day. I think a lot of it is set up, too.

Back to the 02 vs the 04 - I've ridden both and if the 04 has lower miles and is in similar or better shape, both are stock, I'd go with the 04. Better comfort, Ohlins, ripsaw, soft seat, lcd hand warmers, all the tic tac issues are resolved and personally, I like black better than blue! :)

I'd rather by the last year of a model of any product vs the first year just because the engineering is evolved.

Good luck with the decision - let us know what he comes up with!

You must admit if that is the best it can do it is an under achiever. I had an 02 and a friend of mine had an 03, same state of tune and he always had a slight edge which could be attributed to traction but then I clutched mine and put reeds in it and the rest is history. I guess the set-up I do for this viper s is to lose that track and clutch it. Anyone play with the gearing at all?
Viper Tom trail riding is good but when you come to the lake and there are many where I ride, that is where the chest beating takes place in the circles I run!

Exactly.... The sled was built as a trail performance sled therefore the ripsaw is an excellent choice for most trail conditions. If you decide you would like to use your Viper S as a lake racer than certainly a track swap would be benificial. However, if your primary objective is to have a chest thumping lake racer I wouldn't be building a Viper for that purpose anyway....it will NEVER stay with a stock SRX on the lake.

I have had 2 srx's, an 05 rx-1, 02 viper, vmax's, etc. I know where the viper stands. All I am saying is get the maximum potential with what you have and the ripsaw will not allow it when it comes to the lake, there is 3 mph lost in that track, I'll bet any money.
