I am thinking of either putting a Viper skid in my 99 srx or putting in viper shocks. Is it possible to just put new shocks under my sled. Will they fit without changing the rest of the skid? Is there anything i should look out for??

I'm doing my 99 sx 600. and on the skid you should only need limiter straps, but be carefull because the ones of a viper are tha same lenght than the short travel for some reason and they are also same part number. I guess they told me here they have to be off a 02srx. check on my posts somebody did wrote down. And as far as I now the transfer rods are the same part number too....I don't think you need them. Unless you want the adjustable ones.
I'm not an expert on all these I'm just passing information some guys gave me on the web site....

Do you know if it is possible to just put viper shocks in your old skid?
You will have to let me know how it turns out!! Thanks for the info.

I just did it....and the only thing I'm replace were the limiter straps....I haven't put it on the sled yet but I can send youa pic later this week....Now that I'm thinking maybe your skid is diferent.....Like i say I'm no expert on this but I think they are the same....I post some pics

Are you doing the front too.....?

what does your sled run for top speed. I bought mine last year and the guy that i bought it from put a bender clutch in it and it likes to lose power about 80. I did get it to about 113 on the lake though. I just pulled apart the chaincase and the gears are stock. I am wondering if I should go with a 41 tooth lower sprocket. Any info??

I had mine at 95. all stock but this year I'm going to be running a long track, 20-40 gear, clutch kit and power inc triple pipes.....Will see how it does, I'm more into off trail riding than lake racing. so I want bottom torque......But I hope My sled runs good this year....

what was your stock gearing? I ride mostly trails so i don't know what to do about mine. I ride with a new apex and have a hard time keeping up.

I bought the shocks here last year...Put an ad on the wanted section...I paid 175 for the four viper shocks. My stock gearin was 21-40

my gearing is 23-39, the source that i used must be wrong about the stock gearing. I just saw a set of 4 go on ebay for 93 bucks, that is what got me wondering about the bolt up!!! Was your sled bone stock?

Yes it was but remembermy sled is an sx not srx........Not saying anything bad of either just that they are diferent models...I guess yours is a power valve and mine is not...

I put viper shocks on my 2000srx skid
you will need to make the transfer rods longer ( because of the added travel and higher ride height)

you can make 10mm "bushings" out of steel that are the same outer diameter as the transfer rods so they will slide into the rod housings 9 effectively makes the rods longer.

then you can make or buy plastic bushings to get the proper gaps on either side of the transfer rod housing.

once you put the shocks in and reassemble the transfer rods, you will see that there is not enough rod threaded end sticking out to start the nut. this is where the extensions are needed. ( if you sat on the sled and ran the nuts on anyway, you would just limit the suspension back to srx mode.

I set my FRA setting to the softest position ( most set in) and played with the limiter straps to get the right balance on the trail. amazing how a little adjustment on the limiter straps makes the sled come out of a corner differently.

Ihaqve not put the front shocks on. the viper has a different attachment at the top. aftgermarket brackets are avaialble. I flipped my stock brackets over and swithed left to right to add 1" rode height to the front to balance the longer travel and rideheight on the rear. thsi takes some grinding and washers to get these brackets to set right, but not too hard to do.

much better ride now, and still corners better that any of my buddies.

do a search, you will see more info and some pics on some of the threads.

hope this helps
