In the process of getting the 2001 SXR600 ready for the snow. Checking my belt alignment with a SledPro tool, and it looks like I'm a little out (I did blow a belt at the end of last season).

Question for you experts is which motor mount bolts should I loosen to alow for the adjustment? I'm assuming the bolts that mount to the bulk head (rather than the engine) are the ones that will allow movement of the motor. Is that correct?

I just installed my Bender pipes, but it looks like I'll have to remove at least one pipe to gain access to the front mounts. Anyone ever attempt to align the clutches with all three pipes installed?

All input appreciated.

Cheers,

I've never done it w/ Pipes on (single or triple). I'm pretty sure you're going to need to take the pipes off. Loosen the bolts that mount to the chassis and then align clutches by moving engine while maintaining proper center to center distance, then re-tighten bolts to proper torque.

i agree remove the pipes

Taking a closer look, I think the pipes will have to come off (rats!). Thanks for all the advice.

Can't shim the secondary, as it seems the primary is slightly cock-eyed. I did find one of the bolts on the chaincase side motor mount (into the engine block) loose and halfway out.

I installed remote fuel screw adjusters last year (Max Perf.) and they provided a replacement engine mount bolt with a rounded allen key head (Titanium). In my attempt to loosen this one I found that it was absolutely seized. Tried heat, etc. finally the hex head stripped. Out came the angle grinder, then I drilled the stupid thing incrementally all the way up to 1/4". Easy outs didn't budge it. I have never had such a difficult time with one screw. When I was drilling 1/4" it finally moved a little and all of a sudden it backed out with the drill bit.

At the end of the night I had numerous dead drill bits (Titanium), the bolt was out and the mount threads were intact, but the pipes were still in the sled!!!

Oh well there is always tomorrow night!!

xsivp: The seat jack is not installed yet, but my wife is looking forward to trying it out. Thanks again for hiking around HayDays to hook up with me(and for the beer).
