use yamabond on the cases and work fast! it dries real quick! (like you have 2-3 minutes to spread it very thin, connect the halves and get the bolts snug quick!) even polaris and cat guys use the yamabond. i would replace the crank bearings if they are even remotely questionable. get a good crank guy to check it out. they can spot a bad bearing a lot better than you. like mrviper700 said it could be from detonation, but all the motors i have pulled apart had some chattering, i think harmonics have a role in it. it its not deep in the cases, just smooth out the high spots.

chatter marks
this usually accurs due to mechanical loosness, excessive clearance.this causes the crank to twist and is actually moving inside the cases.not a good thing.i suggest you find a used crank and casses.pipes don't help you here as they put more strain on a crank as the engine is putting out more hp.goodluck

i have a brand new, stator, and i nice used crank and case, 500.00 for both shipped to ya.
sxrsist - thanks but no thanks. I don't want to sink another $500 into this.
I'll check and see how rough these marks are again. It sounds like everyone has an opinion on it.

stater 100.00, it is new
Sxrsist, thanks but no thanks. I've got one coming. I'll check that one out.
I checked the crank and bearings. The pins are short, I'd put money on it. The center center bearing pin is the longest. However after playing like a locksmith, I could get all bearings to fall on the pins and it was pretty secure. I realize I'm not spinning the crank at operational speeds and such. I plan to mark the bearings so I can index it easier when I put it all back together for the final time. I need to get ahold of rich...
There was some mention about locktite on the outer race of the bearings to the case.... Opinions? I went back to the post that said the height of the pins. The short ones are close to an 1/8 I'd bet.

If the pins are sticking up an 1/8th of an inch, then the pins should be fine. I would have the crank checked as previously suggested. If a bearing siezed or let go, it will do a lot more damage (cases, crank). I prefer the loctite case sealer because you have longer to work with it and it cleans up easier.

Where would I find a good crank guy? I'm not driving this thing up north just to have the crank checked.
