I'm picking up an 85' VMAX 540 with 2400 miles on it and a 89' Exciter 570 with 4200 miles on it...both for $750.00. The owner purchased the VMAX new and the Exciter when it was one year old. The Vmax looks new with the exception of one very small scuff on the paint that I'm sure will buff out. The Exciter only needs a new track...its missing quite a few lugs other than that it looks new inside and out. It seemed like a pretty good deal.
I don't know much about that era of Yamahas but the guy I'm getting them from says the Vmax rips.
I'll post up some pics after I pick them up Monday.

P.S. it also comes with a ton of extra parts...a spare 570 engine, a good track-studded, clutches, drive shafts, jack shafts, suspension parts, carbs....all kinds of stuff.

That is an amazing deal, especially if they are in the shape you described! The older Vmax's did have a lot of spunk, factory tuned twin pipes. I would say that the Vmax alone is worth $1000 with the low mileage. The Exciter is probably worth $750-$1000 as well. So if you're getting both for $750 that is just amazing.
Both are fun sleds and fairly equal in performance, a slight edge to the Vmax.

Name that pipe......
Ok..I picked up the Exciter tonight and most of the parts.....Holy Shitt...the parts filled the back of my Suburban and that didn't include the engine, rear skid, and track. I'll pick those up with the VMAX tomorrow.
Any way...this pipe was in his attic and he thought it was a stock Exciter pipe. It looks like an Aaen but I didn't see a Exciter single pipe on Aaens website. Any thoughts?

Thats no (Heavy) stock Exciter pipe ! Reichards, Bender, Aaens, PSI and others made pipes back in the day ! Here's a couple posts for you to check out !

Well...I just got home with the VMAX. Here's a couple of teaser pics. I'll get them cleaned up tomorrow and get some pics in the day light.

I had one of those on my exciter......it was manufactured by Decker performance. It was one of the pipes at that time that made the most horsepower, BUT, was lower in torque than any of the other models offered by any of the other mfgs at that time, Have Dynotech research sheets that that is what it says. I believe I remember also a statement being made of using a longer y pipe to make more hp yet, but don't remember correctly. I think that I may have the jetting chart for it, I'll have to look, if you want me to.ViperTom said:Ok..I picked up the Exciter tonight and most of the parts.....Holy Shitt...the parts filled the back of my Suburban and that didn't include the engine, rear skid, and track. It is not a PSI pipe. The out flow pipe is not anything like the PSI pipe I have on my Exciter.
