Over the weekend I was getting the sleds out of storage and noticed a large oil puddle under my kid's 2000 500 SXR. At first I thought it was the chaincase but after a closer look, it was Yamalube. Then I noticed that the oil tank was full of gas. All of the oil in the tank was displaced with gas. When I opened the gas cap,the gas tank seemed to be under pressure. The sled had about 1/4-1/3 tank of gas when it was put away, and the rear of the sled was raised just enough to keep the track up. Any ideas on what caused this? Should I run 50:1 mix for the first tank til the oil lines clear? Thanks in advance for any advice. yamajohnny.
it did it because the back of the sled was raised up and the vent may be plugged on the fuel tank, if it made a "woosh" sound when you took off the gas cap?? There is a check valave that may need replaced to keep fuel from coming from fuel pump back into oiltank. I would drain the oiltank completely and then refill with oil. There is a oilpump air bleed screw by the cylinder reed cage bolts, remove this bolt till oil comes out of the line, you can pull the engine over with kill switch off and get it to come out. Replace the oil and screw and it should be fine.
I had this happen to an SRX last year after I replaced the tunnel. It was the vent line pinched between the footwell support and bouncing down the road it made a hell of a mess.
i had one that was pinched between the handlebar hoop and the gas tank, made a mess
