Hi guys, Been lurking here for a bit...
Okay, I have a problem that I'm trying to solve with a modified version of stock mtn clutching.
This has to deal with my bro, hes a BIG boy!?, about 450lbs worth of big and he has a '98 SRX w/121" track that he likes but he's looking to tighten up the clutching, I'm thinking of putting a mtn style clutching in it because of the mtn sleds needing more grip on the belt and being able to put hp to the track with minimal belt slip. Do I have my wires(so to speak) crossed. Please advise.
Oh, and the sled isnt ridden in the mtns just on the flat lands of MI.

The mountain clutching is a lot less aggressive due to the fact the sleds make less hp at elevation & can,t pull rpm,s with the flatland weight/spring/helix combo. The only diff in the srx/Mtn SRX clutching is lighter rivets in the primary in the mountain sled. Your brother is still probably overreving if he has stock clutching in his SRX.
 
Thanks Turk, How do we get it to hook like mad with stock type parts? Stiffer secondary or twist the current secondary to a tighter position? Thx.
 
Hook like mad? 200+ picks on ice or 1.5" track on snow! You want better traction or clutching? Stiffening the secondary won,t help. You probably need more primary weight...a lot more. What are wide open rpm,s right now? You won,t gain squat & actually increase rpm,s by tightening the secondary. I gotta know what the clutching is in it right now; gearing & wide open rpm,s & what track he is running. With out knowing that there is nobody that can help you make the sled run better. Need way more info
 
Okay here goes.
The sled set up is stock for the most part, the only thing that is set up is the suspension.
Rider is 450lbs.
clutching is currently stock revs to 8300-8400?
Gearing is stock.
Track is a .92 lug with 192 studs machine will be trail ridden with the occasional lake rip, would like it to accelerate better than what it does now, clutches slip with riders weight out of the hole.

Right now, if we were to drag race my sled roosters right off of the line and his sled moves forward but doesn't start to break the track loose until about 60' ft out of the hole, is there a cure for this?

That sled works the best coming out at 8100ish & climbing to 83-8400 rpm. If he is slipping the belt & bogging then tightening the red spring to 80 or 90 degree wrap is his best option.Clutching sounds close & the extra rpm,s probably will help to get him moving.
