8bu-00 or 89a-10 for 99 srx 700 ?

i am getting ready to swap primary on my 99 srx 700 . it currently has a hauck "j" helix and 8bu weights . does anybody know what angle this helis is? and if is the proper one for my sled? secondly , what weights are better 8bu =48.7g ,89a-10 = 47.5 sled engages at around 4000 then shifts out to 8400/8500 but my mid seams weak(lots of noise but not much pull)also sled does not backshift very well. btw primary spring is all red and secondary is all black. thanks for any help!!
 
use the 8bu 00.. weights! dont know what the hauck helix has for angle, but around 51-43 is good.. set the secondery spring to 70 or 80 degrees twist, and maybe its time to change the primery spring.. i would use blue-white -blue, but white-white-white is olso good! have the srx run at 8200 rpm and climb to 8400.. good luck
 
hauck "j" is a straight 45, no wonder it doesnt backshift well with 8bu weights, 8 bu weights are good drag racing short distance weights. decide on the type of riding you will do 80-90 percent of your time and set the sled up to that, not the 10 percent time, or you will not be happy with it.

The recomendation of a 51/43 helix is correct.


If it were my sled, I would run the newer 8dn-20 weights with 4.5 in both holes, a w/w/w primary spring along with a 51/43 helix with green secondary spring at 70-80, this does about everything well, trail riding,lake running, all around good set up in a srx.

48/40 advantedge works well too with either 8bu or 8dn-20. It is slightly more aggressive then the 51/43 & the initial upshift is also a little more aggressive. I had better luck getting rpm,s in the sweet spot using 48/40 with 8dn/20,s. This isn,t as critical with 8bu,s cus you can load a lot more weight in the arms if you need it. With 8dn,s your about maxxed out unless you use extra wahers under the rivets or bolts to add more mass because sometimes even with weights loaded the 51/43 just won,t bring down rpm,s enuff.
 
get your rpm's closer to 8300-8400 on the 98-99.
Those set up work great the 89a10's also work great for all around and have some top mph if set up right.
 
most of my riding is 80% trail , 20% draging. how does 89a-10 weights and a 48/42 helix sound with a w-w-w primary ? what spring will i need for secondary and what twist? thanks again !!
 
Your gonna need green secondary at about a 70 or 80 degree twist with about a 4.5 b
gram inner & a 2.4 gram outer. I shoulda wrote more stuff down in the way back days but this should get you close. I am working on memory & about 10 beers tho!

ahhh they would be....OK, but not as good as 8bu-00 for the total weight of the heel is heavier in the 8bu-oo, great for the launch.
 
so are the 8bu's primarly used for racing? not so good for agressive trail riding? here in St. John's , Newfoundland we are not blessed with a groomed trail system. here is what i have. 8bu-00 and 89a-10 weights, 48/42 advant-edge helix , white primary spring and going to get a green spring for my secondary. what weights will work best for ungroomed /packed snow and some off trail riding. looking for a good holeshot and a quick backshift.
 
89a-10 not a good backshift weight even on snow. 8ca,s loaded to the nutz with about a 52/44 helix work well on grass with a green secondary spring at about 80 wrap.8bu-00 with some tip weight will work very well with that helix.
 
8BU-00 WEIGHTS ARE STOCK 95-96 VMAX 800 WEIGHTS. THEIR VERY HARD TOO BEAT AND GIVE YA A REAL NICE DRAG RACE SET-UP IN A SRX. I HAVE TRYED THE 8CA WEIGHTS AND THEY WORKED GOOD. 3:16 (tony)
