Hi Guys, Does anyone know what the actual distance the bolt pattern is spaced on the Sx motors verses the Viper/SRX motors? Looking to see if Sx cylinders will fit on a Srx/Viper Crankcase.T

Why do you want to put SX style pistons on the SRX case?
I knew this question would be asked!?
Well, I was thinking of stroking my sled, I called a specialty crank shop(Falicon) out of Florida that I had work done at in the past and they said that they would no longer stroke Yamaha crankshafts due to the design of the cranks after 1998 model year. So my next thought was to try to fit an SRX/Viper crank into my cases because the stroke is about 2.5mm longer, but the cranks are a totally different design. Then came the next thought of, if the cylinders would bolt up to an SRX/Viper case and the ctr lines of the cylinders were at the right spacing I could do what I set out to acheive, Which would ultimately be a 700+cc Sx.

could be done if you have the will, theres a way. Youd have to machine little threaded aluminum plugs to fill in the srx/viper cylinder stud holes, then devcon the openings, mill the case top flat, then re lay out the sx mounting pattern and relocate the studs, not really terribly hard but plenty time consuming.

Without telling too much I have done this to make a 1000cc srx using another brand of snowmobiles cylinders. ;)!

Just out of curiosity, what did they tell you the fee was to do it for you?

to stroke a crank its more time consuming then anything, you have to bore out your original lower pin hole and make a new offset steel plug, with your new pin location in it or you can make it solid then bore it, which is then pressed in and welded into the crank throw, this then allows you to press in your new lower pin and rod/bearing.

If I remember correctly I "think" they said around $1000-1500, don't remember exactly, I has been about a year since I talked to them, but I do remember being told by them don't expect to be able to get big $$ for your sled at resale time because you spent a ton o money on a stroker crank. If I had a machine shop at my personal disposal I would have a ton of cool stuff. I like making exotic (hmm, what shall we call them) works of art. I had built some Jet Ski stuff for myself in the early-mid 90's and had asked people questions like, can you do such and such with such and such type item? Reply was: NOPE YOU CAN'T DO THAT IT'LL NEVER WORK! Then I proceed to pull out my little non-doable item of art and I get the response of Well, I guess you did it, but it'll never work. MAN, do I hate doubters, The item of my design worked like a charm and never had any problems. The only problem I have is it seems that I make stupid items that'll only work for me. Go figure. T

ok, thanx alot

we think alike, I love the doubters too, mostly because if they were open minded enuff to just listen they would learn something instead of saying nope this formula, or book or person says it wont work!...LOL!!! have a good one.
