Ok the previous owner of my sled used ipone for injector oil and ipone chaincase oil. I want to switch brands cause ipone smells like a*# when it's running. I'm probably going with amsoil. Which type of synthetic amsoil injector oil is best for a 2001 600 non power valve. The intercepter says on it for power vavles and the hp says nothing. The hp is cheaper and seems to be the right choice..any thoughts? Also chain case oil/ lube. What should I use to replace the ipone. I know amsoil makes a synthetic chain case oil which I bought but after doing a search on the site it seems everyone thinks it too thin, but I'm assuming the ipone in it isnt any better.. is that true? If so what is my next best choice, amsoil product or not? Also I only put a wooping 70 miles or so on my sled last year.. should I even change the chain case oil or not? Thanks!!

I run Amsoil in everything I own. I use there chaincase oil and change it out every year regardless of how many miles. Iy looks like new every year but It is just a good habit. Changing let's me inspect chain and gears. I run HP Injector in my 94 VMAX 600. I would check the owners manual and see what classification of oil it recommends. Some machines although they do not have powervalves require a oil with a JATO rating. Those machines would use the Amsoil Interceptor.
I don't have a manuel for the sled and unfortunately don't have access to one but I will check into it. What exactly is a JATO rating?
Still open to some more input!

I run Ipone in both my machines without troubles and does not smoke much.

Here is a link to the owner's manual. Jato is a classification for the oil. All oils have different classifications. Owners manual does not give specifics. I would use the HP Injector.

Thanks for the link! I'll give it a look. Might order me a manual while I'm there. I happened on amsoils website. According to the website yamaha needs the intercepter but I will have to search the manual for exact specs.

It has ipone in it now and I can't stand the smell. Plus I can't seem to find anywhere around me to buy it from. From a performance stand point I do like it though. Another thing is it came out a while back the ipone is a semi syn, not full syn. kinda pissed me off with false advertising.

I am sure that the chemists and engineers at Amzoil have made the chaincase oil the correct viscosity. You can change it if you want, but it should not be necessary with only 70 miles use. Many sleds go through their whole lives without having the chaincase oil changed.
I know on some of the late to mid 90's models it requires a change at every 2,000 miles for the chain case oil, but check your manual.

Best practice is to change the chaincase oil every year. Never know if any moisture has entered the chaincase through a bad seal or through the filler hole, ect. And personally i use amsoil gear oil in the chaincase, 75W90, always have loved that stuff and the light color makes it easier to see impurities or water contamination. As for the injector oil, use amsoil HP injector. It is good stuff and much cheaper than Interceptor. I have many thousands of miles on HP without any problems, and it smells decent too. Nice low pour point with that stuff as well.
I think I will take your advice and go with the gear oil instead of the chain case oil. As for the hp I bought it because it was cheaper then the intereptor so I know what you mean there. Thanks for the advice! hopefully amsoil won't let me down. Think snow!

Amsoil will not let you down. I run it in my car and change my oil once a year. about 15,000 -20,000 miles a year. When I ran Pennzoil I changed my oil every 3,000 miles and it would always be black and broke down. After running Amsoil my gas mileage has improved and my oil almost looks like it did when I put it in after 18,000 miles. My son's 4 wheeler smokes less and starts and runs better. I run it at 80-1 in my leaf blower and weed-eater and been doing that for 5 years and use them every week with no problems and still using original plug.

I like amsoil and all but do they tell you that you can go 18,000 miles without a oil change in your car?? Man i'm starting to worry about that I'm neglecting my vehicles after 5,000 miles. I know that there are some oil companies now stating they can go high mileage without oil change but I wouldn't do so, not for a couple of bucks. The reason I'm saying this is I just noticed my wifes car is due 1,000 miles ago and I won't be able to get to it until this weekend it has me worried sick ,man am I anal!!!!

Yes, 25000 miles or one year whichever comes first.I have been doing it for a long time like that and I am extremely satisfied its a top shelf product in every way.

You can now go up to 25,000 miles or once a year without changing oil or filter. This is not recomended if you are doing alot of towing but for everyday use no abuse you can go 25,000 miles. I normally drive between 15,000 to 18,000 a year so that is how often I change it. Amsoil was the originator of the extended drain interval. It is a full synthetic and does not have the impurities of a petroleumn product.

I only use Alisyn oil from Areospace Lubricants. They are much better than Amsoil which Amway owns.

Max, i run this in my chain cases, it's got a pour point of -67 deg.
it's seems to be good stuff coats well too.
Also i'm thinking of using intereptor this year, don't have PV's but i
think the protection would be better, plus the PP on the intersept
is better than the HP for them cold cold mornings.

Once my HP Injector I will be running interceptor also because that is what I use in my 2 Jetskis. I will buy it by the case. To save a few extra dollars.
Amsoil is not owned by Amway nor do they have anything to do with them, they do practice the same multi level marketing but that is the only simularity. Amsoil it is owned by Al Amatuzio (sp?) and is based in Superior WI.Hillbilly said:I only use Alisyn oil from Areospace Lubricants. They are much better than Amsoil which Amway owns.
You can run the HP without problem but the Powervalve cleaning sequence will increase, Interceptor would be the better choice or ANY GOOD synthetic designed for Powervalve motors will be fine and you will have no issue changing over to Amsoil as it will mix without issue. I still practice running the oil tank low before swapping but it is more of a personal preferance than a problem.
Bottom line, use what your comfortable with.
