I am replacing the track on my srx ((98)) do you just drive the drive shaft out once the collets are off?

???? i cant understand what you are tryin to say. the chaincase needs to be taken apart and the bottom gear removed at the least. you will probably have to take the whole case off the sled and the bearing on the speedo side has to be removed.

Red Snake is right, bottom gear has to come off chaincase side (and alot easier if you remove the entire chain case, that way you can inspect all your bearings while everything is apart). And on clutch side, speedo comes off (three 12mm bolts) and there is a bearing in there. This bearing has a collar with two small torx set screws (T-15), which you access from underneath the sled, inside the tunnel This bearing was a BEAR for me to get off and took alot of persuasion. There is a great link in the TY Technical Pages section which explains the entire track removal/replacement proceedure thoroughly and very accurately. I used it my first time around and worked like a charm. maybe someone can post a link becuase I can not fiigure out how to do it.

Track swap.

P.S. Make sure to keep of close track of how you take your internal chaincase compoments (chain, gears, washers, spacers, etc.....) apart as there are different size washers and spacers that must go back exactly in the order they came apart. And as the instructions state, pay close attention when you pull the chain case off the shaft as there is a small, rectangular "key" (it is bout 1" long) that sits partially recessed in the drive shaft, that might fall out when the chaincase is removed. Good luck!

Just wanted to add that the tech pages couldnt be any more clear. This is the kind of stuff that makes this site kick a$$. Glad I did my track when I did cause the bearing on the clutch side Steve is referring to was completely smoked and hanging by a thread. I cant believe I didnt hear any noise coming from that region.
