02 Viper Front Shocks in a 97 Vmax 600 xt?

Just picked up a 97 Vmax 600 XT, and I'm thinking about putting new shocks on, wondering if Shocks from an 02 Viper would work on this sled? They look like the same design. Also what about the trailing arms? are these basically the same as well? One of the trailing arms on the sled is dented, was thinking of replacing this anyways.

arms are not the same at all. viper is on a different angle (more aggressive). you need to check the upper shock mounts for type. the viper is a clevis type (i think) and yours the top looks the same as the bottom. others will chime in cause they know more than i do.

the shocks will bolt right on.

what you would need is

longer limiter straps

change your spacers on the rods

remove the stock front shock brackets

press in bushings in your front cast section to hold the top of the shock

you will need to adjust your carbide preasure front to back

to make the sled wider you will need different rods, extend yours, or just leave it. they handle fine the way they are but as always, the wider the better.

when all that is done, you will need to do an alignment.

All 4 shocks bolt into an xt with no mods in the front, and you will need different shims on the transfer rods in the rear. Makes a big difference in ride quality and performance, did mine last winter. I set the shocks up at factory spec for spring height, middle position on the rear rate adjuster and it rides perfect and outhandles all kinds of newer ski-doos, cats and polaris'. Now if I only had another 80 horses....

now I just have to save up some cash, and replace the fronts first. Will probably look at a new track and replace the shocks as a summer project next year.
