I have a 99 srx 600 and I would like to change my bottom gear in my chain case to a 37 from a 39. My top gear is a 23. I know in the service manual it says that I should run a 68L chain, when currently I have a 70L chain. But I am not sure I am going to like the new gear ratio. The question I have for you guys is do I have to put a 68L chain in even for a couple trial runs? Or will this chain work for good? I have about 1 inch of bolt adjustment. Has anyone ever run a 23 top 37 bottom on a 70L chain? I just was looking at the tech pages on the web site and the same year srx 700 came stock with a 23/37 gears and ran a 70L chain. Can someone please clear this up for me!!!!! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!

why would you want to try the 37 sprocket?? a srx 600 has way to "heavy" gearing as it is.. i had a srx 600 before and i geared it 21-40 and it was a huge difference!! for your other question, i think you can do it for just some test runs, but you will find it out for sure when/if you get the sprocket changed and if you get the chain adjusted.. belive the chaincase are the same for 600 and 700 srx..

The reason I am going to a smaller tooth gear on the bottom is with my clutch kit the sled dies about 80mph. I have all the holeshot I need. Is it possible to run 23 37 gearing with a 70L chain???
Work on your clutch
Did you ever consider that your clutch kit may be the cause for the lack of top end? As stated above, SRX were geared plenty tall anyway and most people geared them down. Why don't you post the info about how your clutching is set up......maybe it will be a lot easier to fix you top end problem there.

I agree with above post.
I think you need to look at your clutching before worrying about gearing.

its in your clutching. 23-39 will still get you real good top end speed if set up right and everything in the engine is kosher (such as powervalves are clean and operating properly)

I have already looked into my clutching with more than one person. As far as I can see along with Turk and other members of this site my clutch is doing what it should. I have a bender clutch kit it shifts out at about 8400 and my sled has a compression ratio of 120 psi on jugs. My powervalves are spotless!!! I have plenty of holeshot, I just want to know if it is possible to run a 23 37 on a 70L Chain. I would like to run a little faster and I will give up the low end pull.
