mountain sled rental packages?

Where is a good place to go for say 4-7 days. Skilled riders, lots of off trail, deep snow, but no mountain riding experience. Looking for either a place that would have a sled and guide, probably just two riders, but we understand that we would be paired up with others. Just don't want to end up with a group of 12. I would think 6 plus the guide would be a decent size group. Anybody have any location suggestions? Websites?

Grand Lake colorado. No Guides, but the trail maps are very good.
On the trail rentals has some very nice sleds with 144 X 2" tracks and maybe 153"x2"and if you rent for 3-4 days they will let you keep them overnight.
Blue bird motel can be talked down to a cheap price.
Gateway lodge is more expensive, but you can ride out from the parking lot
Bring your own helmets so you don't look like SPORES
Locals are fairly friendly and helpful.

I was in the same boat 2 years ago, skilled riders, no mountain experience. We went to Togwotee Pass, Wyoming and had a blast! There are trails everywhere so you can't get lost, but what was nice was inbetween all of the trails is all rideable terrain (very large areas), mostly wide open, some hill climbing. We didnt get into it at all, and I know there is a LOT more to explore, but what we did find was awesome. In fact my avatar was taken out there. At Togwotee Mountain Lodge you can rent sleds and they have either cabins or motel/hotel rooms in the main lodge, dining, gas station, and I'm pretty sure you can get a guide there too. If not there are quite a few in Jackson. Hope this helps!
 
Our area of the Little Belts has pretty good snow and a mountain rideing experiance. You really don't need a guide but I am sure we could show you around. No Yamaha for rent, only A/C Motel is 8 miles from the rental area.

Do not let the idea of riding in the mountains scare you. Play in the meadows, don't climb big hills and be careful about following a track thats one sled wide off into the trees.
When we are heading into a bad area out west, where getting out is iffy we always put down one track only. The renters are told not to follow a single track.
If your turned around and not sure which way is home, sit on a trail and someone will come by in 5-10 minutes.
I carry survival gear, as do my riding partners. because we explore a lot, which can lead to spending a night out once in a while.
As many as 200 renters a day go out on their own at Grand Lake a day. We do maybe one search and rescue a year and they aren't lost just stuck most of the time.
 
I appreciate the advice, we will have to do some thinking about it. It is just a maybe trip anyway. We just spend so much time off the trail in the UP(paradise-grand marais area) I think we would want to go places we shouldn't be. IF I had a group of say 6 healthy guys I would be more apt to do it. It is usually just 2 of us and sometimes when we get it stuck badly, we joke about how we would get it out. Of course this is on short track machines.
 
Spent three days riding out of Togwotee Mountain Lodge last March and couldn't have been happier. They can set you up with sled, guide, and room packages and will group you with riders of the same skill level. I would recommend springing for a private guide for at least one day. The country is incredible and the accommodations were 1st class. Heck, they even pick you up and drop you off at the airport in Jackson Hole. I posted some pictures here in a different thread......I'll look around and see if I can find it.
 
:jack: Yes, sorry 2stroken. I would definately say that Togwotee is the place to go for "beginner" mountain riders who are experienced riders in their own realm. I spent 4 or 5 days riding there and never ran out of new scenery or terrain that I wasnt afraid of tackling. I will stop now....good luck with finding a place, make sure to post some pictures if you do end up going somewhere.
 
YOu guys should be ashamed for giving me the info, and then saying your going to stop telling me anymore about it. :) Keep the info coming, this is all useful in helping us make a determination on what we do. My the way Yooper, one of my favorite places to ride is along the lake shore near vermillion point, between there and paradise.

I meant the thread with the pictures, not this one. I'm not 100% sure what the total was as it was a gift for my buddy and me. I know that we went in the "off" season (which really was just fine) and got a little better rate. Their prices were on their website last year and they are very helpful on the phone.....give em a call!
