I heard people say they can beat a stock F-7 with there stock SRX. I have never ridden an F-7 but I did see a new 06 go wide open and that thing flew. If a stock SRX is that fast, a stock Viper S should be just as fast? If not what makes the SRX faster than the Viper S?

Forgot to mention this 98-99 SRX are slow, Ive beaten them with my stock viper. But 00-02 whole diff. story. And like BBlueSRX said shorter travel in the SRX, SRX is more of a lake/drag sled unless money spent to update suspension.

Can the Viper get the same fuel milage and reliability as the SRX if you put pipes on it? Why did Yamaha not put tripple pipes on the Viper to give it the same power as the SRX? Isn't The Viper a more expensive sled and a higher up model than the SRX? I wouldn't think they would make it slower.

2 completly diff. sleds like I said before the Viper is more set up for trail riding while the SRX is set up for lake/drag. If you long travel a SRX with all the same suspension stuff thats under a Viper itll be hard to beat through the woods.

Putting pipes on a Viper will decrease your mpg alot, your looking any where from 6-10mpg compared to 12-14mpg on a stock one. The porting and timing is set up much hotter on a Viper than a SRX. Adding pipes to a Viper can also decrease the realibilty of the sled cause it has a spike in the timing and the added heat cause of the extra 30hp its not suppose to have.

There are more things diff. on the 2 motors, and I sure the guys that know more about this will chim in.

What pipes are you running? and what did you do to make them work and still get decent milage and reliability? Or did you sacrifice something?

Ceramic coated SLP's. I'll be sacrificing alot more money for gas, but it'll be all worth it with that extra 30hp. I spent alot of money to make this set up as realiable as I was told to do so. SRX Rear Heat Exchanger, SRX Base Gasket, MPI Cold Air Intake, hood and belly pan heat taped, and a Aftermarket Billet head still to be decided, all watched buy a Redline EGT gauge. Also removed all of the foam underneather the hood cause it only there for sound and foam does insulate some.

The viper is a surprizingly good sled considering all the wrong moves yamaha made with it.

The basic Idea was take a great smooth surface sled (SRX) and make it cheaper and more like everyone elses big twins.

start by giving it a single pipe (tripples with a single pipe never perform anywere near as well as a twin with a single) then screw up the compression so it can run straight compression. from there they ported it and tweaked the timing to make up some of the lost power. Then to make it lighter and cheaper they messed with the crankshaft. Thats the engine story.

for the suspension they decided to take a smooth surface skid, then make it ready for the big bumps by putting the long travel stuff and valve it too stiff for most yamaha buyers.

its a cheapened SRX with a long travel suspension.

I thaught the Viper is a higher end sled. At least its better looking than the SRX. As for all the mods needed to keep up with an SRX, I may as well get a SRX and put the Viper suspention under it and paint it black. Cant stand Blue.

There must be a cheeper way to make 30 more horsepower and still be reliable. Not saying you did to mutch to your sled. That will be a hell of a nice ride. It just sounds like a lot of work and money to get 30 hp.

Viper better looking than an srx? I guess everyone has a right to there opinion.

Didn't mean to offend anyone, aSRX600guy was really putting down the Viper. I really hope its a better sled than he thinks. I just baught one and havn't got to ride it yet. Got a little offended thats all.

The Viper is a great sled....if you want more HP look for a used set of pipes and be sure you have the large rear heat exchanger and opticool gasket.

Before you go spend alot of money try it out maybe do some cheap clutch mods and you may be happy with it. If you want to be faster then other sleds....well HP and speed costs money.

The viper is a great machine with a bullet proof motor as it sits. With 120 hp most people find that more then enough. If you are worried about all this stuff, i would of thought it through before you bought it :o| .

Im 20 and the viper is more then enough machine for me. For some people they may want more, i do very little lake riding, so top speed is not that important to me.

Have you owned any yamaha's before? I would be worrying about the rear shocks more then the power right now. If i were you i would get a heel clicker clutch kit, and get a set up from turk. Find out if you like the way it rides. If not buy a step up in shocks ;)!

Same here, couple of hp difference. Traction and clutching are the most important factors.
