I have a 94 V-max 500 ST with PSI pipe, aftermarket helix, not sure what it is. I played with it last year and had it up to 95mph. I think thats pretty good for a 500 long track. The only problem was I got beat by a Polaris that should have been in the scrap yard. I want to be sure that wont happen this year. I don't think it will with the Viper as it is. I have to blow this guy away this year no matter what. When I seen the Viper at the dealer I had to have it. Love at first site I guess. I figured its a Yamaha 700 tripple and its black and beutifull, Can't go wrong. The guy that beat me has already seen the Viper. So he may be stepping up also. If he is I hope I'm ready. I was thinking about the heel clickers. How mutch will they improve 0-80mph? And how mutch will the top end suffer if its set up for 0-80?
justaviper said:I thaught the Viper is a higher end sled. At least its better looking than the SRX. As for all the mods needed to keep up with an SRX, I may as well get a SRX and put the Viper suspention under it and paint it black. Cant stand Blue.
You hit it right on the head! The SRX is ,by far, way superior in the engine department than the viper. Tweak the suspension and your all set. I've had both. I miss my SRX so bad I'm looking into getting another one. I've done a lot with my viper. Never been as happy as I was with my SRX. Speed always prevails!!
Just to note: The SRX was the "TOP" sled for Yamaha in the 2000 era. Viper was the chaeper smaller trail version.
I ride mostly trails and ditches and run on the river wide open now and then. So I guess I have the sled I need. Just curious though, Will the SRX engine fit in the Viper without a lot of modification?
you guys who claim to beat 98 and 99 SRX's with your Viper are blowing smoke. Maybe you raced a couple with issues, but still they will wreck any and all of your non-piped vipers. I dont know where you got the impression 98's and 99's are slow, although 2000 and up had a few more ponies with a lil less weight.
you won't be able to fit the SRX motor and pipes under the Viper hood. The Viper should be just fine for you, but some of us guys crave a little more power, at a pretty hefty dollar.justaviper said:I ride mostly trails and ditches and run on the river wide open now and then. The Engine will fit just fine... but the pipes are a different story. Actually. I think you would be better off to read some of BETHEVIPER's posts. He has (or at least used to) a complete kit to use the SRX pipes with the Viper motor, including CDI and some other good stuff to get all the reliability of the SRX with the power of a piped viper. You do have to do quite a few modifications to the plastics and bulkhead I believe. Probably easier than swapping the whole motor. I would look into it if it were me.

Yea I'm blowing smoke when I have done it before, maybe the sleds werent set-up correctly but dont tell me I havent when I have. But it looks like your the one blowing smoke telling someone that SRX motor and pipes wont fit under a Vip hood when it has been done before. Diff. takes some modification but it'll go. Maybe do some search before trying to educate someone.

Not knocking anyones set-ups but heel- clicker clutch kits are the worst thing you can do to a stock viper or mod sled. I built many vipers and srx's and chassis dynoed with every heel-clicker set-up they got and they all fall on their face at mid range. Mind you this a chassis dyno, tells you horses at the track. They seem like a great thing because of the heavy spring and weights for a hole shot, but after that its all down hill. You will lose 3-4hp mid range. Bender Power Shift kits make the best power I've seen so far

I have owned both of these sleds. The viper s is very underated i think. When you ride your viper i think you'll agree its a pretty fast sled.I sold my srx's and bought a viper s because i was sick of getting beat up on in rough trails. My 01 and 02 srx was getting blown away by 600 cc twins when we rode rough trails and i thought to myself, what good is all this h.p. if i cant use it.I sold my srx's and bought an 04 viper s.None of my buddies could catch me in the trails after i got the viper,i usually end up waiting for them at the end of the trail.IMO the viper is a better all around sled, unless your riding groomed trails or lakes all the time which is where i would prefer the srx.
I think thats what I needed to hear. And I think I baught the sled that best suits me. I love power and speed, but I also like riding very aggresive. Getting over the bumps fast is a lot of fun.

love my srx since im always riding groomed trails

and as far as the pipes go, anything is possible with some welding skill. he asked if the motor and pipes would fit w/ little modifications. I saw betheviper did it and was trying to sell the set-up last year. I would be laughing too if I saw a stock viper beat an SRX. there is a 20 hp difference and all i was saying that it should never happen. didnt mean to offend anyone with the blowin smoke deal

Heel clickers worse set up for a viper? You'll have to ask turk about that one

BBlueSRX: None taking, but the way you worded it says it wont fit at all. And I'm not here to tell fairy tales, I sneak the truth and thats how it went.

keep it civil guys.
SRX pipes WILL fit in a viper, but it's way more work than the average Joe will ever take on, and it involves cutting a big chunk out of the belly pan, it will never pass for stock, and most people would complain that it looks like a hack job. (which I guess it is really).
as far as 98-99's vs 00-03's vs vipers vs viper s's
this whole "my sled with picks and a clutch kit and vforce reeds beat that sled with a clutch kit and carbontech reeds and studs" is really an exercise in stupidity. you either go stock for stock, or mod for mod, there's no sense in saying "it's modded a little bit, but faster than another sled also modded a little bit" 'cause lets face it, calibration counts for ALOT more than dollars spent. Beyond that, run that same race in powder, on hardpack, and on ice, and it will come out different under each condition set, then run it at -10*c, 0*c +5*c and see if that changes the outcomes... it will.
