the easiest way to check this is look at a sheet from a DYNO. Volumetric efficiency will be near or above 100% and brake specific fuel consumtion (BSFC) ( Much the same as thermal efficiency) will show the lower number in the 20-35% range. If you read through those links you'll see what I mean.
I suppose the instructor taught it to me wrong.. I'm sorry,,, MY BAD!!!! It was always refered to as Volumetric efficiency..... Thats why i was so persistent
