We have 2 97 SX 700's. Both are completely stock but one hasa 136" track on it. One has 5800 miles and the 136" has about 3000. On the one with 3000 miles it always fouls plugs. It has been doing this since we bought it with about 1900 miles on it. I can take the plugs out of the 5800 mile one and switch them with the 3000 one, cylinder for cylinder and the 5800 mile one will run fine and the 3000 one will still bog and backfire. Any help or advice would be appreciated? Does it have a faulty cylinder or do I just need to replace the plug wires? Thanks for your help.

Did you check compression on all the cylinders? Is it fowling on all the cylinders or just one? What is jetting / oil pump adjustment set at?

Since there's not really a whole lot of upfront info we'll have to go through the process of elimination so the more you can tell us the better.

Make sure the choke plungers aren't sticking partly open. If not try turning the fuels screws in 1/4 turn. Maxdlx

I'd certainly follow Maxdlx's suggestion. Something is not right with the carbs. A complete cleaning and looking at the settings of the fuel screws, and the rest of the jets and internal passages makes a big difference.

Also since you have 2 identical sleds you can start swapping parts between them to find the issue.

What about plug wires or plug caps? Is this a possibility? Might try wapping them tomorrow. We got about 6 inches of snow today and its still snowing now. Be about 6-8 possbily a foot by tomorrow. Can't wait. Let me know if this is possible. Will update as I try to troubleshoot.

Swapped them out and no change. Getting the carbs cleaned and checked out. Will let you know how it turns out.

2 of the carbs were completely plugged and 1 was almost plugged. Have to go get them and put them on. Will let everyone know if this helped. I'm thinking it should.
