When do you know a reed needs to be replaced and can only one be done or do they all need to be replaced...Will post pics soon...any advice would be great...thnks
Cracks on corners is one symphton. Also i have crack limiter as well.
Stock reads are quit good and takes a lot of miles. Of course they will loose a bit.

This is a great question.... besides obvious symptoms like cracking, missing pieces, or not sealing to the reed cage, what can a rider expect his sled to perform like? Bogging? poor fuel economy or anything like that?
Also, is it really worth the cash to get Vforce3 reeds? Or, are stock replacement reeds just as good? I have heard people say "I installed Vforce3 reeds and it made a huge difference!" but did he replace a WORN OUT set of reeds with the Vforce3, meanwhile would have seen the same improvement with new STOCK reeds?

On a stock Yamaha motor I feel that the stock reeds are better than the Vforce reeds. The cages are better in my opinion as well. With modified engines you may have more reason to go with aftermarket reeds.
One thing to look for in worn reeds besides obvious damage is brittleness. This does not allow the reed to respond as quickly to the steady air flow reversal and power loss is encountered. Discoloration can be a sign of wear as well.

Thanks for all the info...what I need is to know if I can change only the bad ones or do I change them all??? It only seems that the tops are worn a bit…Thnks all. Sorry for the blur, I'm learning three things at once, CAMERA, COMPUTER, ENGINE REBUILD...

I would replace them all. They all have the same mileage on them I presume. If you are really trying to keep a low budget then maybe only replace the damaged ones, but they won't all be equal and thus respond at the same rate.
Thanks Ding, I'll replace them all...Should I use blue or red locktite on them when reinstalling them...

Personally i dont use loc-tite when i reinstall the screws, and have never had one fall out, but if you want to just for peace of mind then use the weaker loctite.
