How do i get the perfect traction??

i have a 01 srx with a lot of motor work and all the bells and wissles everywhere else under the hood, but lately i have been having a tough time keeping all that power from spinning. I dont yet have the adjustable transfer rods, i was wondering if anyone on here can tell me how to fine tune my suspension for some prime traction. Right now i only have 144 carbide studs that are in really good condition. I would like to go with some chisles but they wear out to fast. Fill me in on how to get hooked up.

well to get really good transfer you're going to need the aftermarket rods. Chissels will DEFINATLEY help that baby hook up, but not too feasible for trail riding if that's what you're doing with it. If you're just drag racing or speed running, go with the chissels. Running a tight center spring and fairly loose rear spring helps with transfer. From your pic looks like you already have the front springs fairly loose. Pattern is also very important, more scratch lines means a lot more traction.
 
You have to run more than 144 studs, I have 192 and can still spin the track. Install the transfer rods they work great, if you are running on ice use chissel tooth studs, regular carbide studs if you are trail riding.

more center preload = less ski pressure and therefore more traction?
 
I kind of have the same question i need more traction on ice. I have 192 studs and Transfer rods. I was wondering if i could replace the ones in the center with Chissels. If i pin it from a dead stop it will spin then i let off the gas a bit and then watch out i really start to hook up but its when i first pin it is where i want the hook up like when i'm on a trail. Has anyone mixed their studs with regular and Chissels. ;)!
 
You could mix in chissels, obviously it wont have the same effect as if they were all chissels because the more blunt trail studs will support alot of the weight of the sled so that that weight can all be applied to the chissels, but it will still be much better than with just trail studs. Also keep in mind that if you are trail riding, chissels will not hold up very long as they are much softer than carbide-tipped trail studs, so they will not last NEAR as long.
 
Keep in mind that your engagement rpm is also very important in determing your traction. An engagement setup for drag racing in near-perfect track conditions will not work very well for a snow-covered lake racing situation where conditions are much less than perfect.

Do it all the time for ice raceing or running around lake simcoe when the snow melts.I find putting the chisel picks on the outside rows easy and quicker to pull back out if we get another dump.Tried the old school way of cutting down a track to 1\4 lug and 192 pencil picks for ice found it only good on virgin ice.To mutch horsepower in a srx if the track has been chewed up you would spin even at half track in 600 ft.I like the 144 patern with 24 added in the middle for 168 laying the pattern out yourself for lots of scatch lines for a good trail track.192 is better for raceing but the outside picks can pull out and makes it a bear to stear in corners.
 
this is what i did for lots of tranfer.remove tranfer rods, drilled new holes for theese stoppers i made(rubber coated bushing) tranfers like mad for less tranfer i put larger stoppers for more smaller ones even ran without any. rode like this all last season problem free. for trail ridding you need fairly large stoppers or the skis never touch snow.

WOA DOWN BOY i put these shocks on and did the same as you for a stopper.but put a axle tru them that you can turn for more or less rubber.

cool, probably would slow down the initial tranfer, where did you get those? any more pics.

Thanks i have blue polaris wheels now! i have to take some more picks but the shocks are yamaha ones for a electric bike i belive cut the tops and welded a eye the bottom bolted right on.
 
hows the snow out your way usealy, your just south of toronto right? i live in Englehart 6hrs north. got snow the pst 2 weekends but leaves right away. Any good salvage places out your way ? im heading to toronto for the supercoss races in dec.

There is a good salvage yard in breckin next to orrilla you know casino rama give me a pm if you want his number lots af yamis and ski doos there . I am north of the smoke and have been to engilheart sledding at a budys moms place.
