Anybody out there have this year and model? I have one in my sights and I think I might pull the trigger. She is a very inexpierenced rider and it sounds like a good sled for her. Thanks.

i have the sx500r witch other than the gearing and probably stiffer ride is the same sled. it has been good to me and is pretty peppy for a 500 twin. if it is still set at stock settings the steering will be nice for her. switch the skis out if they are the stock steel ones and try not to put too agressive a keel ski on as it makes the steering stiffer. i currently have viper skis on mine and i like them.
anything else you wanna know just ask but ill tell you now there arenot too many performance enhancers for this sled but it will keep her happy as it is a lighter sled than the tripples.

Thank You! Especially for the Pictures. I could only find one picture of this model on the internet and it was not very good! The dealer that is selling it is about 1 hr drive so I didn't want to have to drive her there just to see it. The one he has also has reverse and electric start which is exactly what i'm looking for. Years ago I owned two vmax 600's(94&95) and thought they were pretty fast, I suspect this will be very close.

VmaxJohn had a really good setup for his sled. It was very quick, staying near the bigger sleds until 70 or so.

If you don't pull the trigger give me the gun I'll take the shot. That would be a nice sled for my wife. Let me know what you decide. I was thinking one of these or a 2000 Phazer or so for the misses. She is timid when it comes to snowmobiling.

i am running a modified vmaxjhon set up on mine and it really pulls well. that is how i found out that sxr500 have different gearing than the vmax when i could only hit 80mph. puttin in the vmax gearing so now we will see how much closer i keep to that 583 mxz thing buddys wife have.

My wife bought one new in 01 and still rides it, added oversized suspension wheels to reduce slide wear and woody dually wear bars (her favorite mod), this is one great sled and I also enjoy riding it. Nice warm sled also for the really cold days. Handles rides great.
Decent on fuel and low oil consumption, no power valves to clean or fuss with. If you do buy it and don't add duallys you may want to shim the skis as it wanders a bit and was my wifes only complaint.
You can't go wrong. Best of luck.
