What do you think? clutching or power valves

I'm having a problem with my sled, but it seems intermitent. I go out and trail ride my sled all day with out a problem, Then I go to line it up on the lake with the buds and I slam the flipper to the bars and it seems to bog out at about 7200rpm I give it a few blips and then it opens up and runs up to 8400rpm by that time im in dead last. To be honest it only seems to happen when I peg it to the bars from a dead stop. What do you think? Is my clutch not opening up all the way when I giver or does it have something to do with my power valves.

its my third winter that i try to find the same problem !! happend more if the motor don't run like 10 min and start back to race i think its the cable of the power valve that come sticky went its cold :dunno:
 
No temp light at all, As far as I know the carbs are clean because it runs great, except when I punch it from a dead stop. The sled is an 01 it has about 1800 miles. It did this with the stock clutching and then last year I installed a Hauck #4 clutch kit and it did the same thing. To me it feels more like a clutching bog then an engine bog. If I slowy apply the gas there is no problem at all and trail ride all day long with no prob. Peg it to the bars from a dead stop and then I have a problem. Rolling starts no problem. it sounds like the secondary is binding up, but you changed parts, so rule that out. i would say dirty pilot jets (not mains) are the next culprit. if all else fails, add some preload the the secondary and see if it goes away or not. at least you can rule out clutching.

Have you gone through your wiring harness? Wire rubbed through maybe and when you punch the throttle it moves the harness enough to short out somewhere.

The best way to rule out dirty carbs or powervalves is to simply clean them. A sticky valve could be the problem.

I have had the exact same problem in my '01.Exhaust valves clean, carbs clean.I polished the rollers & arms in the primary and cleaned & replaced sliders in the secondary. Lubed it up with moly lube. I'll let you know in a few weeks how it worked. ( My buddie's 600 ski dont was giving me a good run). Good luck
 
yamajonny, I hope you dont mean you lubed up your primary clutch parts???, if you did, go get some brake clean and clean all the lube off and out of it, or youll have a real mess when you start riding it. Its meant to work dry, thats why all the fiber/plastic bushings are made that way, it keep the dust from sticking to the moving surfaces. Best way to clean a clutch is with hot soapy water,toothbrush then dry very well with compressed air.
 
I wouldnt run anything on it, run it dry, the comet stuff isnt even used very often anymore.The only clutch I can think of that almost has to have it was the early 94c and the old yamaha clutchs, only becuase they would wear so badly in hardly any miles.
