srx 500 foot times

I have a 98 srx and it is running 6.2 seconds on average in 500'. The motor is 100 % stock. The sled is lowered limiter straps up, geared for 500', clutched to run 8500 rpms from start to finish. It gets good starts without ski lift or track slippage.. The problem is I was running against some other Srx's that are supposed to be stock running 5.5-5.6. How do I go about getting down to those times? I know that they are stock bore and stroke because I was there at tech... Also, what is the best time you guys have gotten with stock sleds? What about porting???
 
well first off I would say your not clutched correctly, you want to come off the line at 8000-8100rpm, peak torq curve, then let it climb slowly to 8300-8400max hp with a 98. 6.2 sec is trail stock times, you can run 5.6-5.7 fairly easy with correct clutching/gearing/suspension set up, it all has to work together. ISR stocker class you can go 5.4's on a srx700!!
What are ya running for clutching and gearing now?
 
I am running 19-38 gears stock drivers, it as a bender clutch kit for a trail 700 with 8dn-00 weights and the tip weight, spings, and rollers bender provided, the secondary is at 90 degrees twist... The shocks are turned down to within a half of a inch from being all the way down, and the limiters are all the way tight..
 
oh no wonder, those are hardly good weights for 500ft, 8dn-00 are great speed running 1000ft weights but if we are talking budget backyard racing run what those other guys are running, most likely 8bu-00 weights with empty first hole, 4.5 in tip, a white maxx perf spring if you can find one or a bender orange primary spring and 8-12mm shim, 15.6 rollers, 50/40 helix or a 51/43 will work too with a green secondary at 80-90, youll be right with the other guys, I have ran this set up many times and have run 5.60's-5.70's without too much set up work in the suspension, still need some but not as much as pro racing and with only168 mega bite studs in the track.

Now..... if you wanna run faster like 5.40-5.50's your gonna need alot more parts and work to begin with and heel clickers, 40-10 weights, your gearing is good, same 50/40 helix , 48/36, 49/42 all work good for drag racing with heel clcickers and your gonna need a drag racing low profile lightweight track with 192 plus studs to hook it up. If you wanna go this route I will give you a set up to start with.
 
Mr viper, can you give me the setup to run the faster times? Also, some info on where to get all the parts... I have a shaved lightweight track I bought on ebay about a year ago... Thanks
 
lightweight track and studs are the most important thing, there's alot you can do in suspension aswell, not to mention gearing. you're definatly in amateur stock territory, but there's more there. I'll send you a PM with some contact info, I"m happy to help you out as much as I can.
