Well as if I need another sled, i'm picking a Viper S this week. It was one of those deals that you just can't say no to. 800 miles and mint. So the '02 Viper is for sale with all the extras!!!!

A couple questions, did the S come with the the engine torque limiter?, who still sells the smaller driver conversion with the new gears to allow clearance for studding, and possibly pipes and clutch.

My viper now has a bender clutch and can, and i really liked the setup. along with the 1" track, studs, transfer rods, etc... I really enjoyed this setup, but i'm not sure which direction i'm taking this one.

Any opinions and sugestions would be great. thanks!!!
 
No torque limiter on the 04 Viper S. Also, check the rear shocks to see if they are the Olins upgrade shocks. If not, you may want to upgrade to a rebuildable rear shock package. I blew my center shock last year with just over 800 miles on the sled. The steel bodied rear shocks are not rebuildable.
 
it's on '02, 6000 trouble free miles. new shocks at 4500 miles, bender clutch kit, I will also give the MBRP can if you would like, transfer rods, 1" kimpex track, w/ 144 stud boys up the center. yamaha skid plate, shock covers, bar hooks, 1" bar riser, 1 year old yamaha viper cover, engine torque limiter, snow slips and snow grips from yamaha on the running boards, 4th wheel kit (suggested if studded) and always maintained, garage kept and serviced. This sled is in excelent condition. I'm asking $3800 locally. Have 2 people comming to look tomarrow. All offers will be considered.

The S I believe has the smaller 8tooth drivers already, cause it has the 1 1/4 ripsaw an upgrade to the 03 std. I have friend with one and I asked him to check it for me, cause I was going to put on a 1 1/4 rip on my std vip...Now for studding a viper S get a hold of richierich a T.Yer here he will know what you can put on and I think he is running a sale right now on studs…good luck enjoy the ride it’s a great sled…
 
Not true - the S has 9 tooth drives stock. No tunnel wear strips or cooler protecters are in the S. Search "studding viper" or something like that you'll find info on studding the Viper S.
 
yes, it did come with 9 tooth drivers. if you stud you must get rear heat exchanger protectors because they will hit there too cause the exchanger is the SRX cooler.

not sure what is meant by upgraded ohlins rear shocks????

Ya, All Viper S's came stock with Ohlins.
 
The Viper S came with Ohlins front shocks, the skid shocks unfortunately are steel-bodied nonrebuildable units. If they fail your best bet, like already mentioned, would be to get a set of rebuildable aluminum bodied shocks from an earlier Viper and have them rebuilt and revalved if nec. There is a member on this forum that does a great job with Viper shocks, let me know if you want his info.

04 Viper S came with Ohlins shocks in the front but the stock rear shocks are steel bodied and are not rebuildable. My dealer told me Yamaha did offer an Ohlins rear shock upgrade package though! If you have it Good On Ya Mate!
 
you can get an ohlins rear suspension package for any yamaha proaction, monoshock, proactive, etc skid. Basically any 97 and up yamaha.
 
I priced out the replacement stock shocks for my Viper S. $279 for the center shock, $379 for the rear. So yes for that kind of coin there are many options, including rebuildable KYB's. Another thought is for that kind of money, you are half way to an M-10.

Good point, but nobody (or almost nobody) would/should ever pay that for shocks. Why would anyone buy them brand new from yamaha when you are guaranteed to find a set on here, on ebay, a dealer, or a local snowmobile boneyard for MUCH less?
 
I have a Viper S....LOVE IT!!!! no torque limiter but is available, stock Ohlins shocks (awesome ride) and you have to change the drives do to the Rip-Saw track if you want to stud.
