Hey everyone, I was backing my 02 SXR 600 off the trailer this morning because i have to take another sled to get fixed up...and I noticed she was smoking like crazy. It was probably around 60 degrees this morning which is real warm for right now, could that be the reason? A little smoke doesn't bug me but when you can't even see teh bottom right side of the machine because of all the smoke pouring out, I start to get a little concerned..just bought it too so I hope nothing is wrong :o| Other than that she started up and ran fine ;)!

also if it was fogged when put away it will smoke a bunch until it cleans out. Let it run until you can feel the rear cross tube getting warm, it should clear out by then. Maxdlx

All i know is that the dealership had taken care of it before i bought it, and it only has a tiny tiny bit of gas in it. I let it warm up for about 3 minutes before moving it. But the sled seems to be taken care of so im starting to think that maybe its because it was fogged, should i take some pics for you guys tomorrow? Or do you think im just a worry wart, haha.

you need to let it run a little more then 3 minutes if it was fogged. Take pictures it that would give you piece of mind.

Well I have been going out and starting it up probably 2 times a week just because the anxiety is killing me. So overall it has probably run for 20 minutes, and I do rev it a little bit. You guys sound sure that it's just the fogged engine burning off, so I trust you guys. Is there even anything taht would cause excessive smoking?

If it came from a dealer, ask them what they did for storage. My old dealer used to drain the gas down to almost mt, add 2 smoke oil to the gas, and then fog it, just to make sure it was good to go. It looked like a 40000 acre forest fire at his place when the fired up sleds for fall sales. Maxdlx

I'm sure they where. LOL but who could smell it. I thought the shop was on fire one time LOL Maxdlx

And one more quick question (thanks for all the help by the way.) If I want a little more power out of this puppy next season, what kinda parts/mods should i look into, and how much damage to my wallet? :)

find a set of pipes, and clutch it. That will wake it up. You can also peel the head gasket on a 600. Maxdlx

How much money are we talking with those upgrades? And any sites online that I could buy the parts from if interested?

Definitely a clutch kit if you dont want to break your wallet. (125-150 bucks-ish, get with Alan from Ulmer Racing)
Upgrade to a taller lug track if it has the stock track.Lots of power and no traction means you'll be playing catch-up!!
If you have fairly deep pockets go with the pipes and clutch kit!

It does have the stock track, but its got 96 studs runnin down the middle of it so i'm not in a huge rush to buy a new track. As for the clutching, i'll look into that and a set of pipes..maybe buy these new things when i get my tax return in april :)

96 down the middle doesnt compare to a new 1 1/4 track, changes the sled alot, unless youre running lakes.
