Do I need a bushing press to change the bushings in the primary clutch? The service manual calls for a bushing press, I would rather not buy one if there is an easier way to do it.
Thanks

see if your dealer will let you use the tool. Its a multi dimentional tool to aid in pressing (hammering) in the bushing. Or find a socket or pipe that will work. The problem is the bushing is very skinny so you do not have much surface area to work with.

I had a local machine shop make me one. Used the demensions off the primary clutch shaft and the hole in the cover. If I remmember correctly they charged me 20 bucks. Works just like a factory tool, with no damage to the fiber bushing.

If you dont have access to the tool, I have used a large, deep socket (1", 1 1/16", 1 1/8", etc.....)and a rubber mallet with success. socket/bolt opening towards mallet, socket wrench opening (square) against bushing. Just make sure it is 100% straight as it is a one shot deal. I have done this numerous times with success. As always the right tool is reccomended, but this will work if you were stuck and didnt have access to one.

I have used a socket and a nut, bolt and washers to draw in the new one. If you do it right you can remove the old one when you put the new one in.
