Come on guys, we need some vintage ice drags in the midwest 1983 and older sleds ! Dont let the oval chumps have all the fun. Lets get something serious going, not this barnyard racing thats going around, with no tech and incorrect classes!! All good stock classes AA A B C D E then correct mod classes Mod stock 1 2 3 4 5 then open mod classes. Lets hear it.

There is a race in Wisconsin. I saw something in a snowmobile magazine about it. Showed a one lunger race that I was thinking about running in. Still think if there was a few more dates set there would be more interest. Would be a blast though !

I agree...

I used to be the rules commitee chairman at the Michigan Open Drag Series in MW Michigan back in the late '90's and we ran the "letter classes" which went by a weight to hp ratio instead of engine size/cooling type. we ran stock ,imp stk, mod stock. I havn't seen any races in the country, whether drags or ovals, that run the letter classes, they all go by engine size/cooling type. Doesn't make sense to me - putting all stock liqiud 440's in the same class for example. what's going to win in a race '77 srx or a 440 kawasaki invader?
I still have all the ISR charts that show what letter class every sled 1974 through 1994 runs in. ;)!

Yes, I have all the charts also, people are cheating so bad in the stock classes because the lack of rules. Letter classes are the only way to go to be fair and even racing and more sleds in a class. Tech would be easy check, stock clutches , engagement, pipes, carb size and air box, and no torque straps, ny deveation sled is in mod stock. Also to many collectors afraid to ride the stuff they have ,they would rather take stuff to totally boring shows. Grass drags are too hard on sleds . I have been told the reason the races are not like that is because know one would know what class to enter their sled in. Dumb!!!!!!!

Run what you brung. Keep it simple. It's Vintage guys!!! Lets stay cool. If you have a slug, then just show it. Can't help what the other manufactors built back then. Just because Ski-doo and yamaha built a lighter/high HP sled shouldn't make them have to be the bad guys. Remember when you had to run your 77 blizzard 440 agaisn't the 650 improvers. Just because Polaris and Cat didn't want or couldn't build a lighter chassis or know how to make more power then. I couldn't beleave that ski-doo and Yamaha let that happen. How could anyone one ever feel good about beating a 440 with threre mod 650? Oh I forgot, they never did win. The 440's still kicked there butts. So, Here we go again. Lets put the little 440's in the 800 tripple class. Mybe Polaris and Cat will look good. Ya right!!!! Just my 2 cents. Dean-o

the 77 srx was not considered stock back when it was released. it was a superstock sled, just like the '76 Merc snowtwister. they were not alowed to run in stock classes.

It had a head light for a reason. To run in the stock classes........... I'm just saying that it really made the other manufactors look bad. Real bad....Sorry, til this day this still gets me going. When I was drag racing a 77 srx back in 1980 in the east, I only had one other sled to worry about, Bill Jarvis's srx. The stock one. Anything else was a easy win. Anyone else have any race storys? 77 BLIZZARDS??? I love those sleds to....325 lbs and about 90HP. YEAH!!!!! Dean-o

In ISR drags all over the country the 77 srx 76 srx 77 ss skidoo 77 z 76 440 merc were all alowed in AA STOCK

Later in the 80's the 600 indy was also in AA STOCK the class and 700 artic cats a little later

AA/STOCK IT WAS THROUGH OUT THE EIGHTES. THAN THE GREAT SANTIONING BODDIE WE ALL LOVE SAID THIS. FIRST THESE SLEDS ARE TO OLD TOO RUN IN STOCK CLASSES , SO THEY BAN THEM WITH A 10 YEAR RULE WHICH PUSHED THEM UP INTO INPROVED STOCK. PROBLEM IS THEY STILL WON. THAN ISR SAID WELL BECAUSE OF SAFTEY ISSUES THESE SLEDS MUST RUN IN PRO STOCK. WELL THE MORAL OF THIS STORY WAS THE SNOWMOBILE MANUFATURES COULD NOT STAND TO SEE THE OLD BEAT UP THE NEW. 3:16 (tony)

I still would rather race them than look at them, Where did all the sleds go? In the midwest pure stock and mod stock drag racing was very big in the 80's with alot of sleds from all brands in each class. Now at a race you see 1 77 srx 1 76 srx couple mercs no 77 cats no 77 ski doos 77 moto skis I cant see this sport grow without participation. The stock classes are realy messed without basic tech.

still run my old sleds and putting a nice clean thunder jet together for the kids to ride around with this winter. ;)!

where else but ebay could you sell something like 77srx or 78 ssr for that kind of money, I often wonder who is buying these sleds..........

I notice more and more of the 76-80,81 srx440's going up in value on evil bay......more money then I would pay for one.

I have been offered $5500. for the 77 that i race. just said sorry not for sale , having too much fun with it. ;)!

I was wacthing TV last weekend and something hit me. They where showing the old 69/70 muscle cars and how much they are worth now. A 69Z is worth $200,000. Ten years ago it was worth $20,000. WOW......I had a 70 GTO Judge Convertable Ram Air IV that I bought for $1000 back in 1980. That car is worth over $250,000 now. They only made 37 of these. What is a rare race sled that only 100 where built worth in ten years from now? If you guys think $20,000 is a lot of money for a SSR, think twice. The sky is the limit on this vintage race sleds. Yes the trail sleds will be worth some money later, but the rare race sleds will be untochable. Ebay has some to do with it, but not all. Happy Thanksgiving. Dean-o

I have seen some 77srx do double that on ebay, people on ebay will pay more then something cost new for used parts, must be a bidding kinda thing. Case in point, I was watching a set of viper pod scoops on ebay they were used but in good shape, they sold for $52.00 each, brand new retail is $43.25 right from your yamaha dealer!!! I bought brand new for $30 each from my dealer after I showed them I could buy them for $35 from ronnies.com. I guess some people dont check on stuff before bidding!!

69z@$$250,000??? would have to be a copo car or a ultra rare zl-1 car, they do bring some big money on barret jackson but thats not the average restored car on there, nor the average buyers!! A good restored 69z-28 could be bought for $25,000-30k easily, I see them all the time for sale on ebay and in Hemmings motor news.
Now that ram air 4 car your talking about, anything ultra rare ram air 4 is big bucks anymore, no matter if you are talking GTO, firebird or trans am's. I went to the pontiac nationals this year and they were all priced stupid!!! Ram air 4 was so rare because it was a huge cost to order it back when it was new, the price alone scared alot of people off.

Kinda makes ya wish you could have keep all your old cars in a barn somewhere and remember to open the barn back up 30 yrs later....LOL!!

Mr Viper,
A 69 Z with numbers matching and in good original condition is brining a lot of money. The vintage rare race sleds are showing the same thing and know one can stop it. Dean-o

DEAN , HOW ABOUT A 69 Z 28 WITH FACTORY CROSS RAM CARBS AND FACTORY 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES. I AGREE WITH YA EASY THAT PRICE. I HAD 69 Z/28 IN 1982 THAT I SOLD TOO BUY LOT MY HOUSE IS BUILT ON. CAR I MISS WAS Z/28 I HAD IN HIGH SCHOOL. 1970 1/2 Z WITH ORIGINAL LT-1. WOMPED ON 69 Z.s WITH THAT CAR. 3:16 (tony)
