I've got a PSI single pipe for my 93 Exciter.

I had used it for 2 years, when my engine finaly blew up. I have just completed a rebuild, new pistons, bore, new crank seals, ect.

Now, I was about to re-install my pipe, When I noticed, I can definatly feel something is loose inside of it...

It's not coming from the silencer area as I have removed it, and although the packing is pretty worn, everything is still in tact at that end.

The rattle seems to be coming from inside, where the expansion chamber is... I always thought that area of the pipe was hollow, but there's definetly somethign in there that's loose.

Now, I am going to fix it, has anyone got an idea on how I should hack it up to get inside? Also, what the hell may be broken in there, and could it have caused my engine failure?

Pick a colour, and that's where I'll cut it open.

if its chunks of engine you should be able to get them out the inlet. my personal guess is that its something that rusted off from the silencer end.

I'd bet it is the end cap of the silencer that holds the packing in. If you cut it cut it at the smallest point. No sense having to weld any more than need be. Maxdlx

Thanks for the replies.

I cut it apart right where the silencer attaches, and found the source of the problem right away.

It seems that as the pipe leads towards the silencer, there's a cone in there, with a piece of pipe welded inside of it, ...

That pipe had broke off at the welds, I welded it back up, and re-packed the muffler as well.

Should sound pretty mean, come on snow!
