I recently took a headlight and guage pod from a newer sled with the dual lights and put it on a 97 700SX. After rewiring it I can't get the tach or the gas guage on the new guage to work. (gas Guage and tach are on the same guage.) It lights up, but the needles don't move. Also do I still need the voltage condenser? What makes a tach run? The tach wire is the blue wire and it runs a few different things in the pod. Is it possible that the tach guage is dead? any way to test it? PM me with info. thanks!!

I thought the tach got its signal off the lighting coil on the single headlight sleds. Do the new dual bulb high put electrical systems use a different signal? This will also happen on an electric start sled with out a battery. It needs that smoothing coil.

No pinched wires, and I wouldn't think that they would use a different signal as I have heard of other people doing this mod. But if the tach AND gas guage don't work, it almost seems to me like a ground issue, Like somehow the circuit isn't complete. But the lights inside the guage do come on. A tach must run off of frequency. I mean, I think it's the only way it could with that one wire doing all that it does. It's really getting the better of me!! Anyone else have any ideas????
If you end up wanting to replace it, i have the entire gauge assembly i will sell you from a 97 SX 700

I've done the exact mod you are talking about to my sled. I'm almost certain the tach runs on the lighting coil. I have the wiring diagram for a single bulb headling if you want it. My gauge pod is from a srx with a single bulb. I guess you could look up to see if the part numbrs are the same for instruement cluster between the single headlight and the dual. Also take a voltmeter and put it on ac(if its digital) and test the signal wire. Test it in both places at the gauge and at the hood harness junction down by the hood hinge.

I would take it off and give it to a turd to put on his sled. Then when he figures it out he will more than likely let you see how it works. KIEL, VICTORY, ARENZ!!!!!!!

No WAIT I got a better idea, Lose the headache and take it to Hauch.
what did the new guages come off?
the 300watt igntion system and old 175 watt ign system uses a differnt tach I think, I will check it out in the book, but let me know what the sled was the new guages came off of.

They are different part numbers between the old and new iginition:8CJ-83540-40-00 & 8DF-83540-42-00 TACHOMETER ASSY.jwiedmayer said:I thought the tach got its signal off the lighting coil on the single headlight sleds. So I bet my initial conclusion was right. I know the single bulb dual gauges can work with the mono can meter. I have the setup and it works. I bet its the mixing of the old and new iginitions that is screwing things up. J

Sorry to hijack but i just put a '98 SRX tach on my '00 SRX and will not get a chance to check if it works for a couple of weeks, will it work or will i have the same problem as going from newer dual bulb sleds to old?........as a note the the guy i bought the tach said it was from a 2000 SRX but when i got it the back had a different part # and dated 1997 (for a 199

d@mn tach!!
This could be true about them not jiving with the new and the old. The one I took off my sled was the style where everything was one unit. Now it is the two seperate guages off of a venturer 600. I should also note that I think that the donor sled was on fire under the hood. I bought this whole pod at haydays. So would there be any way to test this guage? I mean, you must be able so switch guages as they sell aftermarket tach's. and the gas guage I guess I cold just get one of those gas cap type guages, but I'd prefer not to.
I will try and test what I have comming from by the hinges to what I have on top. Also if this is true about the tachs not reading the other's freq then there must be an inverter I could buy. I should talk to someone who sells the aftermarket tachs and see if I was looking for new one, what they would rate them by.
Thanks for all the help guys, anything else?

When I switched my 600 twin over to a 700 tripple with the single pod gauge westach was able to recalibrate it. So I assume they could test your single gauge.
