We are planning a trip in the U.P. We are going to drop at lake gogebic and ride to marquette and stay the night then ride up through Big Bay and then up to Copper Harbor and stay in Houghton the second night. Question is what is a good place to stay around the Marquette area for a night with a group of 12 people. (all ride yamaha except one green odd ball) :letitsnow

Most of Marquette isn't all that easy to get to from the trails. I think you may want to consider stopping in Ishpeming in the Jasper ridge area. There are a couple of motels and a couple of options for food and a bar right there. Depending on which trail you plan on taking to Big Bay Ishpeming is either closer or only a small amount further away.

Trying to think of a motel that is reasonable to get to or I could possibly give directions too in Marquette. I can't come up with one. My wife will know better, I will ask her when she gets home tomorrow and get her opinion. She works in Marquette. Both Marquette and Harvey don't play well with snowmobilers. The do have some posted speed limits in areas and do have trail patrol sleds.

Well thats good to know, let me know what you find out, I figure I could get some good info on this site.

the Best Western by Jasper Ridge Brewery in Ishpeming is awesome. Has a pool and hot tub with a restaurant and is right on the trailside w/ Meyer's Yamaha dealer right down the road. The trail into marquette has heavy traffic constantly and was BEAT. Did I mention it's a Brewery?!?!

Yeah, riding through Marquette is not that great-the "trail" quickly turns to junk from all the local traffic-that said-I love riding that area-we go out from my buddy's deer camp.

I talked with my wife about it. The holiday inn advertises trail access. I have an idea how to get to it, but I can't vouch for how easy the access is. Jasper ridge has some very good home brews :) the food is OK, had better, had worse. The trail to Jasper Ridge is a little off the beaten path but it is easy enough to find. Meyer Yamaha is a good bunch of guys, they would go out of their way to help you out if you need something.

As far as the trail to Big Bay, both ways are very nice trails. Both will be in about the same condition on a given day. They do have some issues early in the year with water crossings. Nothing that can't be crossed tho. Some pics from an early ride up there.
