Hey guys,

Well I have taken the plunge and bought a four stroke, so the red rocket (700sx, power inc. centre dumps, etc, etc,) is being taken back to stock for my wife to ride for a while. I've only taken one layer out of the head gasket, so I need to know if running 87 octane is safe when using stoke jetting with a otherwise totally stock sled, or do I have to add the third layer to be safe. The old girl has a TON of miles on her with no re-build (still has great compression accross the three) so I need a solid answer on this one.
Thanks for the info,

Stubby

If the fuel is fresh & you don,t hold it pinned for 10 miles it should last.

Fresh is important. How fat or lean is not going to help. If you have detonation caused by high compression having the right octane is the only thing to help reduce the detonation. You should have nothing to worry about. If you can remember to throw in mid grade or premium it can't hurt.

Running it as Turk says "Don't hold it pinned for 10 miles" or at 100% for long durations the motor will be just fine. It's those "pin it" runs that melt down the most sleds.
