doing some dynoing as we were kinda bored, my buddy just bought a 700 sx with a bender can on. We decided to dyno it. to our surprise we could only get 102 max out of it at 8400 rpm, then after 3 runs the same consitancy we put the stock can on and it hit 108 at 7900 up to 8200 rpm and 70 foot pounds of torque. Man where are these guys getting of telling us those cans make h.p. i am bringing over a modified stock can tommorow to try a few runs on it and see what it does. We were just getting the dyno set up to pull a bender piped viper with head mod tommorow. that was the only reason we pulled this sx, but it ws very interesting. We will see how this bender pipes viper does, i think bender claims 152 hp. . we will see

yep, that has been the talk for years, I bet that stock can will get you easy 2 hp.... and there are some other mods that compliment that.

you gotta figure yamaha engineers it's stock stuff a certain way for a reason.
the stock can made 6 hp over the bender. i am thinkin the stock moded can might see another 2, but who knows. i honestly cant believe that there isnt more companys out there like dynotech doing can dynos. For the amount of money they cost compared to what they cost to build i would think it would of been to dyno cans then pipe mods. Way more cans sold i bet.Last year we dynoe a 99 srx with a can made by ekholm. It deffinitely wasnt the nicest lookin can, looks home built out of a bottle muffler. They did there homework, there was no loss but the same as stock, which is fine. Its the hp loss what pisses me off.I remeber talkin to terry payne at haydays a few years ago about there claims with the cans, i think the sx can says 11 mid and 4 top end, i asked him where he can get off tellin peaple that? he said well, we lie alot less then the competitors, and had to look in there catolag to verifie the numbers because he couldnt believe it himself. He said bottom line was , they are lighter and sound fast
just think and had a laugh, you know what peaple will spend to make 6 hp?? Can you believe what peaple spent to make -6 lol
Yeah but the cans Sound a lot faster . . .
Actually they just sound annoying to me, I must be getting old. But I always enjoyed beating faster, and much louder cars with one that didn't make near as much noise. Guys really hated seeing a quieter car win.

yes, mental power.
But also in the past Benders claim to fame was louder is not always faster, that is when they were pushing their "stealth type" QST-Quiet Sliencer Technology... I always wondered about modifying their cans to be quieter yet, Gee would it gain the power back??? Shoot now your makin' me want to give it a whirl...
OH, it almost escaped me... How Bender also used to claim that they spent hundereds of hours fine tuning their silencers to make HP and not lose it. DOH

we took it apart and will try to restrict it and see what happens
Lyle; gotta love the dyno-truth test. I like when guys claim their triple pipes make 30 hp & they are lucky to see 18. Keep up the good work. You can be the myth-busters of TY!!!
well here is the bender piped viper, best was 135.8 at 8875 and the best torque was 83.07 at8357 rpm. a little off the 152 bender claims.Never had a chance to run the mod stock can, but we will soon. WE will run a bone stock viper in the near future for a referance to the piped one. the myth of 152 hp. BUSTED
Lyle; i been telling the guys this stuff for years but ...oh well.....now we have hard core evidence. Beers on me when u come out here riding this winter. Way too much dyno bs claims being made by aftermarket guys!!!!! One good thing tho is for racing a bender piped viper is clutch your viper at 8300 holeshot & run it up to 8700 at top end. Most guys run way too high rpm,s on their sleds for best performance.I can see about 100 bender cans for sale on ebay tomorrow.

Can you tell us what the bsfc (fuel consumption) was for each product tested? And did you upjet when you ran the pipes?
Lyle; your findings so far are very close to these guys in sweeden who managed to coax a few more hp with leaner jetting.Sorry about the low dyno numbers but the truth hurts over the inflated percieved #,s. read em & weep but know that all the aftermarket guys fudge the numbers to some degree!!!

the bender viper we run has seen a season of riding and works well, it has the attac on it, we are running a land and sea system, also we are pulling what we are running, not jetting down. These will be the numbers we see on everyday riding, the bender viper was funny, the foam piece on the top of the airboxlooked like it was raely taking on alot of suction on a top end of the pull, we thought hey this thing needs more air. we removed the foam from the airbox and it only made 120 hp, checked plugs and they were really lien. But in reality you would nnever ride without that foam there , so why dick with it. would be interesting to see what it would do to remove the foam and jett up for it.

also, if anyone want to dyno somethin lmk and i can arrange it, just outside regina sk. scott charges 150.00 and you can have at least 4good runs, by the hour after that if you want to make some changes
finally got the mod stock can done today, it made a perfect 2 hp over the stck can,and we ran them back to back 4 times. the ty mod deffinitely works that is very impressive, made 110.4 at 8000 rpm. a little lower then the stock can which was at 8200.Next is my rx-1 with ecp and bendcer muffler, i sure hope the bender muffler doesnt take away h.p like the sx can.Dont feel like putting the stock one on to test.I havnt decided to squeeze the noss on the dyno yet, i still have to install the boss noss and wasnt sure if i was going to run it yet, but would sure be a nice test
great info thanks. i now have a aftermarket can for sale!
do the stock can mod and clutch it for 8000- 8200, should be good

I am not trying to rain on your parade but there is a couple things that will change dyno numbers.
1.) Air density and temp dyno'd at
2.) correction factor
3.) type of dyno used, a land and sea does not load the engine the same way a superflow 901 does, the land and sea gets its reading from how far the alum stop bar bends on the jackshaft.
4.) the amount of water volume available and the temp of it
5.) pipe temp and the length of the dyno run
6.) type of fuel used, when you dyno with race gas in a engine that doesnt need it, it can and will in certain engines lower the operating rpm and output of the engine.
I am not saying in any way you are wrong, but I do know that you can come up with greatly varying numbers from dyno to dyno and theres alot of varibles to work with. A dyno is a tool to show which way you are going, dont get caught up in comparing numbers as it doesnt work the same from dyno to dyno.
BTW_ benders dyno was a superflow 901-902, its a completely differnt animal in the way the engine is loaded compared to a dynomite and the numbers will show it.
