what pipes for my viper

What pipes should I get for my 02 viper, theres a set of jaws in the classifieds are they good or should i wait for slp's or benders.

for me low noise level and reliability are number one, id rather only gain 10hp and not get a ticket on the trail.

thanks all opinions will be apriciated
 
read the post about dyno'ed sleds w/pipes. don't expect to get the hp that they say you will and according to the dyno runs sometimes you lose hp. i only run mine cause i like the sound, same reason i have piped my harley. go to the sx v-max portion of the site and read the post on this.

the dyno'd pipe thread is actually a dyno'd can thread. two different animals. the viper in stock form, single exhaust really gets a power jump with triple pipes. anywhere from a claimed 25-33 hp. my choice was slp, and i for one am not dissapointed at all. good fit and finish, great performance not to overly loud. sounds similar to a srx with a trail can. different but not obnoxious. ski
 
I have aaens, and have only run them in the shop, but they are about stock sound level, and they fall right into place. Maxdlx
 
Dont know if ya know Piping a Viper isnt just piping,clutching, and jetting it. COOLING is a huge issue with these sleds when adding that 30hp cause hp equals increased heat. I went with SLPs cause I was told to do so by many VIP members that have ran SLPs over benders and other brands. If and when you pipe your Viper run at least optic-cool head gasket, SRX rear heat exchanger, and CPR modded head. You can run a SRX base gasket which will slow the coolant in the PTO cylinder whichs thats the one that runs the hottest. But running that base gasket makes you remove the cylinders for install, so people says it overkill, I say its a less chance of burning down so I'm gunna run it. This is what the opticool head gasket will do also cause the stock Viper gasket just let coolant fly though the cylinders and not cool it as good as these 2 gaskets working together.

yes expert is right, alot of dickin around with the viper with pipes, highly recomend head mod. had set up 3 of them and not a single burn down. 1 buddy did not to his head mod with the benders and blew up 3 times, detonated,. and yes we did a dyno there with a piped viper with benders and it only made 135 hp.but we still have to read at what h.p a stocker makes on our dyno with the sled setup in riding trail form. Either way it doesnt show the 152 claimed but is a huge increase over stock.I think how bender came up with that number is the pipes do gain 25 hp, but the viper dont make 128 like they said it was suppose to stock, more like 115
 
I have SLP's and really like them, good power and fairly quiet for pipes. They are a 3 into 1 silencer system, which is usually more quiet then a 3 stinger set up.

yep im planning on doing everything possible to make it run right and safe.

So far im planning on going with jaws pipes and removeing the stingers then taking my stock can and weld a plate to the top of it, then make 3 conectors going from my stock can to the jaws pipes. The police are really strick where i live, Ive seen this done on a f7 with twin pipes and D&D actually sells the kit.

It may not be possible but im gona give it a try.


also for the clutch kit, what kit should i get, what whieghts, springs and helix. I will be doing alot of trail riding, and field riding with the ocasion al lake.

Im looking for a kit that i can run with and without the pipes if thats possible.
 
Dont know to many people running Jaws on there Vips, thats why I went with one of the most popular pipes ran on a Viper. Cause I knew Id have alot of help with any questions I may have for clutching. Cause Jaws pipes are rated a bite lower in HP than SLP or CPRS. Jaws pipes are around AAENS hp rating but all pipes and sleds take to to mods differently, so itll prolly take some tuning to get her right. But id ask the guy that your buying the pipes off of to get some kinda staring point of what he was running. But I'm sure some of the clutching guys on here can help ya out.
 
I'd ask some of the motor guys if itll be safe to do that. Cause that can is designed to have 120hp dumped into it vs 140hp. I saw that you said you did it to Cats before but your dealing with a 20hp increase in something thats stock and restrictive that could create to much back pressure for hows those pipes are set up. Just trying to help ya out cause it wouldnt hurt to ask.

thanks good point made hopfully someone has atempted this befor eor has an opinion. I havnt done it on cats but ive seen it done and D&D sells the kits.

Maybe i could swap fro a srx silancer and modify it.
 
In my opinion, you're going half way in both directions. I think you would be better off to just install the aftermarket set of pipes, and not worry about adapting them to the silencer, or go all out and put the SRX exhaust in... which is the best exhaust anyway for that sled, best gas mileage, best reliability, stock sound level, best horsepower gains, slightly more work than fitting the silencer to the pipes, but probably way way worth it.

If you go with the aftermarket pipes, i wouldn't worry about adapting the stock silencer as I see you're also in Ontario. I've been from the Bruce Peninsula to Sudbury area by sled only a passed by many cops and they didn't even look twice at me with my pipes. The sound law is not too strict around here, you just have to use common sense when in populated areas.

Just a little food for though, but I think you should either go in one direction or the other and not try to combine the two. Again just my opinion.

I was thinking of gettin the srx pipes but i dont want to chop my belly pan, I do most of my riding in quebec, i actually live in quebec just outside of ottawa, i was harassed 2 times by cops with my old 97 sx 700 for being lound when it was stock.
 
Doin the SRX Pipe Conversion is not for the weak of heart for converting it over. If ya dont beleive ask BETHEVIPER he did it and took alot of mods to make it right. That'll be your most expensive and time consuming way to pipe a viper, itll be more realible but way more time consuming. I love to work with metal and fab stuff up, but I'll tell ya I would either go aftermarket pipes on the Vip or just buy a SRX.
 
Oh. Yea i guess that explains things a little better. Quebec is supposed to be pretty stingey about that. In that case, it would probably be best to take the SRX silencer and try to fit the pipes to it. It's probably going to be a good amount of work, but if you're getting the pipes for sure i don't see any other way to go. Oh well... hopefully you'll figure it out.
 
I'm running Aaens on my 04' Viper. VERY quiet for aftermarket pipes. I ran CPR's on my 02' Viper and did not like them as much. Alot louder (but sounded good) and alot more dicking around to install them compared to the Aaens. The CPR's did pull a little harder in the mid-range but the Aaen's are still a major improvement over stock. I'm also running an Opticool head gasket and the 04's already have the rear heat exchanger and no problems for 1400 miles.

my 02 viper has a heat exchanger on the rear of the tunnel, is this stock?cause in the tech pages it looks like they are bleeding the sled from the rear exchanger..
