Quick question for some one out there that may be in the know.
I have a chance to pick up a used '02 SXR 600 with about 4800 miles on it.
Not to awful familiar with the Yamaha sleds but have heard nothing but good things. What can I expect performance wise out of this sled? It is bone stock with no mods. What is the suspension travel like? How many inches of travel in the rear skid. I'm looking at getting back into the sport after taking some years away from it and thought maybe this would be a good sled to pick up for a couple of seasons then possibly up grade from there. Thanks in advance for all your help.

the SXR is a great sled. The suspension can be set up and made comfortable for trail riding. Very reliable machine and there are some free mods that can be done to give here more snap. I love my SXR and would not hesitate purchasing another one.

11.5 rear travel, 9 in the front (I think) HP is right around 100 for the 600, 112-118 for the 700. handling will be the best thing about it, most other sleds wont touch it there. suspension can be set up nice like yamyrider said. reliability should be real good. all around a REAL nice trail sled. my wife rides a 00 sxr 600, 7000+ miles and no issues at all with it
