Viper seat riser !

Hi Phyxius
I think you might have a problem when you go to put your seat back on as the lip on the gas tank is against the riser and that is were the seat fits in.
Steve

Yeah, your right and I´m aware of that problem. I´m going to do sort of a hoop out of metal and fix in those two bolts that hold the gas tank. That to hold the front of the seat in place.

phyxis -

What does your metal hoop look like? Did you use and wood inside the riser for support?

Bearit gave me the same idea on the riser and I'm in the process of making the riser.

It just seems to feel more comfortable and beleive The higher center of gravity helps with control .

can anyone tell me what the relevence of elevating your seat would be? i dont see the purpose

A seat riser should make it easier to transition from sitting to standing while riding. G.B.

Phyxius, What did you come up with to attach the front edge of the seat and riser? Do you have any pics you could share?

I started building the same type of riser with 1/2" in the front and I have been looking to change it to a 2" height in front like the Excell. However, after mocking it up on the sled I found that there is a gap between the tank and the front edge of the seat of approx. 1 3/4". I have not seen a Excell riser for real to see how this gap is dealt with.

G.B.

I have been still messing around with the riser I am building. Over the weekend I made a front bracket and raised the front of my riser to 1 1/2". So my riser will be 1 1/2" in the front and 3" in the rear. This bracket was made from a 1/8" x 1" steel strip I bought at my local True Value hardware store. I heated the steel with a propane torch to make it easier to bend. When I was happy with the fit; I heated the entire bracket and quenched in cold water. I think it will work pretty well. G.B.

Hey, I still owe you some dimensions. I will try and get them to you tonight. As for color, most likely I will go with black. G.B.

Hey Gone Blue - Looks good !! Now I'm thinking of making a new riser more like yours..... I live in South Lyon and we have a mutual friend (I am a riding buddy of Terry Mrofchak).

I just made a 4" wedge riser (see pics) for my Viper, and wish I would have seen this string first so I would have seen the strap idea to allow bumping up the front of the seat as well. Any concerns with the seat tabs wearing through and punching a hole in the tank? Maybe weld a bar/bracket across the front of the strap to prevent this?

For the tank -to- seat gap at the front, I am going to try to remove the staples on the front lower seat lip, and tuck some plumping pipe wrap foam and restaple. Should fill the gap, or at least improve it. Could even just wtuck the pipe wrap foam into the gap without messing with the seat.......
