yes, DONT remove the spring or anything inside the recoil, to replace the rope its very simple,
1.)
remove recoil and set it on the bench, dig out the end of the rope knot with a pick or very small screw driver and remove old rope, all you need now is your new rope with a knot tied in it.
2.)pick up the recoil assembly and turn the oppisite direction the rope comes out, this is preloading the spring inside to rewind the rope when you install it, I preload them 4-5 complete turns. Now that the wheel inside is preloaded align the hole in the recoil plastic center to the hole in outer housing, either use a small welding clamp GENTLY clamped on the inner wheel to the housing or you can hold it and have a friend insert rope thru giude hole.
3.) pull the new rope all the way thru, now tie a knot loosely on the other end and slowly release the inner wheel and it will wind up the rope. You will know if you preloaded the spring enuff if it pulls the rope all the way back in in one swift move, if its sluggish then it needs more preload.
