I know this has been asked numerous times but I'm still confused. I'm attaching photos of the gasket I have (which is new) and a photo of my old one. I was told I had the thin hg before the rebuild, but maybe not so thin...

Do I just use one layer of the thin black? 2? just remove the thick middle?

I'm thinking I might run the top black and bottom black gasket. Still be thinner than my other "thin" hg but probably a little more reliable with risky gas sometimes. I know I had no othe option that running a tank or two of 87 a couple of times in the past but never heard/felt anything different.

The head gasket mod is the removal of 1 or 2 of the 3 layers of the metal head gasket. A new gasket should be purchased to do this with as it is not worth the risk reusing the old nead gasket. You drill out the pop rivet that secures the layers together and then re-assemble. Torque to 9 foot pounds then to 17 foot pounds starting in the middle of the head and working out in a circular pattern is fine.

Yeah, there was photo of the new one posted there. I used the top thin metal and the bottom thin metal. I also even tightened them per the shop manual (and yes, the numbers on the head give you the order...)
