first ride today..some questions?

I know there still isn't enough snow yet,but we had enough for me to put on 20 miles today.I have 8DN-20's in primary empty and 51/43 Helix.Put on a new Utimax belt also.The top of the belt rides flush in the secondary.I think I have to adjust the secondary to get belt to climb higher to the cord line right.As long as it isn't going to be tight.
Anyways when I punch it my revs are staying at about 8600 rpm.It stays there as I accelerate and then at full throttle the rpm's start to climb to 9000 rpm.What should I do to fix this.Engages at about 4000 rpm seems good and pulls hard.Got green spring in secondary,should I change position of wrap.It is in original stock position now. After a few good runs,checked the clutches and they were not hot to touch.Thinking I here some noise down below,thinking belt might be slipping,but I think...not sure...maybe the track is ratcheting.My track is loose now,about 1 1/4 drop in the middle with no pull.And another thing,I have Temp a Flow now and is adjusted 1/8 turn clockwise like instructed which is rich,but recommended until you check the plug color. Plugs are a nice brown now,all 3.Recommended to really have Temp a flow adjusted to the dot on the body.I am jetted for true -20 F.What should I do,run it a bit more over time and check plugs again.

Your track is too loose. I usually have just enough "hang" for my little finger to slide in between the slider and the track. About 1/2" to 3/4".

If you have 1 1/4", then I'm not surprised to hear you have ratcheting when you "give her"!!

Watch out for culverts early in the season!!!

You should check the plugs at different throttle positions. DO a WOT run and hit the kill switch and check the plug color. Do the same at 1/2 throttle. This will give you a better picture of your jetting. You could have the right Main jet, and be lean in the midrange or vice versa. Don't want a mid range burn down!!!!

I was gonna say try a 3.1 in the tip... but Turk knows way more than I do about this stuff. I'm just trial and error... he seems to get it out of the sleeve of his sweater... some day i'll get it lol.
 
Too much weight in the tip will kill backshift for trail riding & in deep snow but will be better top end. Your call; more top end but less fun to drive.
 
How ya doin change-up.It is that time of year again,getting the clutching in tune.Need more solid snow to really get a feel of her.At least I am not over reving when I pin it from a stand still.Later........................Doug
 
And the thing about the culverts,yes I am staying away from them till we get another 4 feet of snow to cover them.Had a close call early last season 2 lots over from me.Almost bit the bullet,it was close as I almost got left ski inside a concrete culvert.Scared the crap out of me.
 
haha. I'd love to get my 8DN-20's dialed in... but they don't do as good in mud in southern ontario. it was T-shirt weather tonight. Snow's comin on Friday though (i hope anyway)

Like I said Turk knows way more about this stuff than I do. I would take his knowledge over my 2 seasons of experience any day.

Sounds like those weights are working out pretty good for you so far. that's good to hear, i just got a set myself to try with my new pipes. We'll see if the 8DN profile is as dominant over the 8EK profile on the SX motors as it is with the powervalve motors. I have a hunch... but who knows.

I have 3 -.85 gr rivets and 3-2.7 gr rivets. The 2.7 would be to much,so I'll have to go and buy some 2.4 gr rivets. So you drop apprx. 100 rpm for every gram,am I correct. So .85 +2.4=325 rpm approx.That would give me aprox 9600 to 9675 top rpms and launching at aprox 8275 to 8300 rpm. Is is the goal?Give or take.

I hope that is a typo because you definately dont want 9600-9675 rpms at WOT. 8600 is much more in the ball park. I think the 600 is a little happier up around 8600 than the 700, which is a little quicker at a little lower rpm.
 
Use the 2.7,s. the diff is minimal & you may need the 3.1. This is all theoritical outcome & on snow it might be different.

I have some 3.1 gr Turk just incase.But would I still use the .85 in the lower holes with the 2.7 or 3.1's.
